The Unit Manager supervises, plans, and schedules nursing services to several units in a long-term care setting. This position manages and assumes 24-hour responsibility and accountability for Veteran care on the assigned unit. This is an advanced supervisory Registered Nurse position. The Unit Manager is accountable for directing nursing services, including oversight/review of work and subordinate and specialist personnel documentation, in addition to assuming responsibility for carrying out several nursing programs in a public health setting.

Annual Salary: $92,148.03
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to administer detailed therapeutic prescriptions and nursing interventions
- Ability to conduct nursing assessments, develop nursing diagnoses, and formulate short and long-term objectives and treatment plans
- Knowledge of a specialized area of professional nursing including related theory, practices, and standards
- Ability to implement and coordinate a specialized facility-wide or geographical regional nursing program, and serve as a consultant for the area of expertise
Qualifications:
- 2-4 years of experience as a Registered Nurse
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse
Physical Requirements:
- Walking, balancing, finger dexterity, pulling, pushing, standing, climbing, grasping, stooping, crouching, crawling, kneeling, reaching, bending, lifting, supporting, repetitive motion, frequent washing of hands
- Essential sensory and communicative activities include: feeling, seeing speaking, hearing, smelling and tasting
Summary:
- Assume 24-hour responsibility and accountability for Veteran care on assigned unit
- Actively participate in the key factor process as evidenced by monitoring of key factors. Provide appropriate analysis when there are variances from the accepted parameter
- Review clinical records for completeness and accuracy as necessary
- Oversee Veteran care to promote the highest level of physical, mental and psychosocial functioning possible for assigned unit
- Assist staff with Veteran care needs as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
- Demonstrate knowledge of the MDS process and complete MDS’s as required
- Make rounds at least daily on unit to ensure Veteran care needs and environmental standards are met, including monitoring of dining room during meal times
- Meet with all 3 shifts at least once per month
- Ensure complete and prompt reporting of incidents with follow-up as necessary to Director of Nursing. Monitor/track/evaluate and report infections for the unit
- Participate in the development and implementation of effective corrective action plans. Participate in the development and implementation of new policies/procedures based on identified needs
- Manage unit in accordance with policy and procedure, state and federal regulations, promoting high quality care and services
- Communicate with Veterans, family and staff to ensure customer satisfaction. Ensure timely and accurate completion and implementation of care plans
- Give medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician. Deliver medication accurately and provide evidence of follow-up observation for effect, adverse reaction or incompatibilities
- Review applications for admission to the unit with DNS and admissions director. Attend and actively participate in nursing supervisory meetings
- Ensure that significant changes in Veteran condition are communicated to the physician, family or responsible party
- May serve a clinical supervisor for C.N.A.’s in training class
- Perform a variety of nursing procedures according to acceptable standards of practice such as wound care, catheterizations, tracheal care, tube feedings, administering oxygen, etc. which may require bending at the waist, stooping, crouching, reaching with arms in order to empty catheter, provide dressing changes, etc. Perform finger pinching and grasping for IV therapies, portacath access, etc.
