The Mission of the San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all San Franciscans. SFDPH strives to achieve its mission through the work of two main Divisions - the San Francisco Health Network and Population Health.

The San Francisco Health Network is the City's only complete system of care and has locations throughout the City, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center, and over 15 primary care health centers.

The purpose of the 2320 Registered Nurse, Perinatal Training Program is to prepare the new graduate nurse or the inexperienced Registered Nurse so that they may provide safe and competent nursing care to all patients in the Perinatal Care setting.

Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) is an essential part of San Francisco's health care system serving some 100,000 patients each year and providing 20 percent of the city's inpatient care. Recognized as one of the nation's top hospitals, we serve the community with a full complement of inpatient, outpatient, emergency, diagnostic and psychiatric services for adults and children 24-hours a day.

The Birth Center (6C) consists of 7 LDR rooms, 4 triage beds, and 12 postpartum/couplet care/ante partum beds. Cesarean sections, selected procedures, and identified high-risk deliveries are performed in the operating suites located in 6G. The Unit admits overflow gynecological patients as well.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Under general supervision, the registered nurse in the Birth Center provides specialty professional nursing duties. Essential job functions include:

  • Completion of training and/or orientation to the Birth Center an dInfant Care Center;
  • Providing Dyad Care within postpartum area;
  • Attending all mandatory meetings as required by the Nurse Manager;
  • Implementing medical and nursing care plans;
  • Reading and responding to all written and electronic communication as required;
  • Maintaining standard unit activities in the absence of the Nurse Manager; and
  • Performing other related duties as assigned/required.
  • Completion of hospital orientation and all ongoing HealthStream (CBT) requirements in a timely fashion;
  • Circulating in the operating room;
  • Maintaining all unit-based point of care testing (POCT) competencies;
  • Providing nursing care to ante partum, intrapartum, postpartum, GYN and well-infant paitents within an assigned unit or clinic;
  • Directing and supervising the patient care provided by nursing personnel assigned to the unit;
  • Maintaining all competencies for the OB/GYN specialty, including specialized training in fetal monitoring every other year;

Qualifications


1. Possession of a valid permanent/temporary (including interim permit) California Registered Nurse License; AND

2. Completion of an Introduction to Fetal Heart Monitoring course within the last two (2) years; AND
3. Possession of a valid Basic Life Support – Healthcare provider certification

The above minimum qualifications reflect special conditions associated with the position(s) to be filled. They may differ from the standard minimum qualifications associated with this classification.

  • Note: One year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40 hour work week). Any overtime hours that you work above 40 hours per week are not included in the calculation to determine full-time employment.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate Requirement/Provision:
Possession of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association is required as a provision to employment for all positions. Eligibles who do not possess such a certification may participate in this examination process and be appointed to a position(s), but will be required to obtain the certificate within two (2) weeks of hire date and maintain validity throughout length of employment. A photocopy of the valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate must be provided to the appropriate supervisor of the appointment within the allotted time frame. Failure to demonstrate/show proof of possession of valid certification within two (2) weeks of hire date and throughout length of employment may result in dismissal and/or termination of employment.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Valid licensure/certification/registration as a requirement to perform the job must be kept current throughout length of employment. Failure to demonstrate/show proof of possession of required valid licensure/certification/registration may result in dismissal and/or termination of employment. If appointed, eligible possessing interim permits or temporary licenses must present full and unrestricted California Nurse licenses prior to completion of the probationary period.

Condition of Employment: Highest Educational Achievement

Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ) (Weight: Qualifying): Candidates will be required to submit an MQSQ at any point in the application, examination or departmental selection process. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications for this position. Training and Experience Evaluation/Supplemental Questionnaire (SQ) (Weight: 100%): The SQ will be sent to those qualified candidates who demonstrate to meet the minimum qualifications. Candidates will be required to submit the completed SQ in the time frame indicated and responses on the SQ cannot be changed once submitted. A passing score must be achieved on the SQ in order to be placed/ranked on the Eligible List. Candidates will be placed in rank order according to their final score on the SQ. After the confidential eligible list/score report is adopted, the department may administer additional selection procedures to make a final hiring decision. The SQ is designed to measure knowledge, skills and/or abilities in job-related areas that have been identified as critical for satisfactory performance in this position. All relevant experience, education and/or training must be included in the application to be reviewed during the scoring process. CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT/ELIGIBLE LIST:

The City and County of San Francisco tests continuously for Class 2320 Registered Nurse. Please note that an eligible list is established for each Class 2320 Registered Nurse specialty area. Candidates interested in multiple specialty areas must apply separately to each recruitment.

Any applicant whose application is deemed not qualified may reapply after 3 months upon successfully meeting the minimum qualifications for the given specialty area.

Names of successful candidates will be added to the existing eligible list with an eligibility period of twelve (12) months. Candidates are not allowed to reapply during their 12-month eligibility period. Names are removed from a continuous list at the end of the eligibility period. Candidates do not have the option to automatically extend their eligibility. Note: Successful candidates will be placed on the eligible list in rank order according to their final score on the Supplemental Questionnaire. This score is valid for twelve (12) months.
