Our facilities include the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) in Martinez, a full service acute hospital which includes an acute psychiatric unit. We have nine (9) outpatient health centers throughout the County, detention facilities, and juvenile hall.

Typical Tasks

The tasks described for levels in this class are representative sample of duties commonly performed. Some routine tasks performed by nurses at the lower levels are also performed at higher levels.

Entry Levels:

  • Administers intravenous therapy and other prescribed medication and treatments;
  • Prepares equipment and assists physician during treatment and examination of patients
  • Assesses patient needs, identifies problems, plans and implements appropriate nursing interventions, evaluates patient care outcomes and documents all of the above, reporting significant deviation from abnormal to normal to the physicians

Minimum Qualifications

License and Certification Required (All Levels): Candidates must possess and maintain throughout the duration of employment: a current, valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or CPR certification issued by the American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider).

Special Requirements (All Levels): As a condition of employment all applicants: (1a) Must successfully pass a pharmacology exam administered by the County; (1b) When assigned to Detention Facilities, must possess and maintain Sheriff's Department security clearance; (1c) Within six (6) months of hire nurses on the Medical unit are required to take and maintain a current Chemotherapy Provider card /certificate issued by (ONS) Oncology Nursing Society; (1d) Within 6 (six) months of hire nurses on L&D unit are required to take and maintain a current Advanced Cardiac Life Support card (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association.

EXPERIENCE:
Entry Level: No experience required.


A completed Supplemental Questionnaire is required and applicants must attach copies of the required license and certifications to their application

Selection Process


  • Training and Experience Evaluation: Candidates who clearly demonstrate that they possess the minimum qualifications will have their training and experience evaluated. The responses to the supplemental questions, at the time of filing, will be evaluated to determine each candidate's relevant education, training, and/or experience as presented on the application and supplemental questionnaire. (Weighted 100%).
  • Application Filing and Evaluation: All applicants must apply on-line at www.cccounty.us/hr and submit the information as indicated on the job announcement by the final filing date. Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
  • Candidates must receive a score of at least 70, which may be an adjusted score, in order to be ranked on the eligible list.

CONVICTION HISTORY

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
