Position Summary
Montage Health offers an outstanding Nurse Residency Program for Registered Nurses. The Nurse Residency Program (phase 1) is 8-12 weeks in duration and participants work 9, eight-hour shifts in each 2-week pay period (72-hrs per pay period). Applicants must be able to work day, evening, night, and weekend shifts. The resident may be scheduled across all seven days and all three shifts. Participation requires schedule flexibility and Paid Leave/Vacation time off cannot be accommodated during the residency program.
Under the leadership of the residency program coordinator(s), the resident will participate in a cohort-based learning experience. The program includes, skills and practice in the classroom/skills lab, supportive debriefings, and one-to-one preceptor support for clinical shifts to facilitate the transition to acute care professional nursing practice.
On the clinical units, the resident’s practice will be supported by preceptors, under the leadership of unit directors, assistant directors, nursing supervisors, and/or charge nurses. The registered nurse at Montage Health is responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of interventions designed to meet patient needs and promote optimal health. The resident’s nursing practice will reflect the policies and procedures of the organization and department.
After successful completion of the nurse residency program (phase 1), residents will be become permanent staff members on the unit to which they were hired. Some units have 8-hr shifts and others have12-hr shifts and the resident will most likely begin on night shift. The resident must complete orientation and initial competency assessment prior to applicable independent patient assignment.
Experience
New graduates are welcome to apply. Previous healthcare experience is preferred.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
Must pass orientation and initial competency assessment prior to independent assignment of patients requiring the applicable skill, and must complete and pass all annual competencies.
Licensure/Certifications
An unencumbered California RN license is required. American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS is required. New graduates who have not taken their NCLEX may apply, however, successful completion of the NCLEX must occur by the program start date.

Units accepting Nurse Residents may include:
Float Pool - Adult patients on Telemetry units requiring cardiac monitoring, titrateble drips, Post-CVA, and post cath lab interventions. Will also float to medical-surgical units and behavioral health.
Garden East-Adult patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring, titratable cardiac drips, post-CVA, post-interventional cath lab patients.
Garden West-Adult patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring, titratable cardiac drips, post-CVA, post-interventional cath lab patients.
Garden Pavilion- Adult, inpatients requiring behavioral health services.
Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit-Adult patients requiring active and ongoing multidisciplinary therapeutic interventions.
Main East-Adult and pediatric orthopedic patients, adult medical-surgical patients.
Main Pavilion- Adult patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring, titratable cardiac drips, post-CVA, post-interventional cath lab patients, post-op open hearts (after the first 24 hours).
Main West-Adult medical-surgical patients, pediatric patients, mother baby overflow patients from the Family Birth Center, and post-op gynecological surgery.
Terrace East-Adult medical-surgical patients, adult bariatric surgery patients.
Terrace West-Adult medical-surgical patients, oncology and hematology patients.
Assigned Work Hours:
0.9 FTE (72-hrs per two-week pay period)
8-hr shifts for duration of residency; once residency is complete and resident is placed on a unit, shift hours may be 8-hr or 12-hr depending on unit scheduling
