Who We Are
We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency that promotes justice by providing free and low-cost legal services to underserved immigrant children, families, and refugees. As an organization that combines expertise developed from the daily practice of immigration law with a deep commitment to advocacy, RAICES is unique among immigration organizations. We provide a holistic approach to immigrants. RAICES not only assists immigrants in navigating through complicated immigration laws, but we also assist immigrants with social needs through case management and providing assistance with housing. RAICES advocates that justice is an inherent human right that should be awarded to everyone regardless of age, religion, country of origin, sexual orientation, or ability to pay for legal counsel.

COVID-19 Response
Protecting the health and safety of employees and clients remains essential. We currently practice social distancing and encourage masks in all public areas. RAICES is using a phased-in approach to return staff to resume in-office operations.
This position will require working remotely and in-office at the assigned work location. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
Hybrid Work Plan
  • Relocation assistance may be provided to candidates willing to relocate.
  • Our mission-centered employee will be required to work in the assigned location when we reinstate normal operations.
  • Currently, all interviews are virtual.
  • Applicants must reside in the state of Texas.
  • Our employees work in-office and remotely based on their role and business needs.

The Refugee Resettlement Case Aid is responsible for providing direct ancillary support to Refugee Resettlement Case Management team by using sound professional judgment and best practices to ensure that resettlement core services are provided in a deliberate, effective and timely manner to eligible clients while maintaining compliance with established federal standards and requirements.
Responsibilities:
  • Documents all visits and case activities in efforts to meet with clients as outlined by the Refugee Resettlement team and Refugee Resettlement Program Director;
  • Assists the Case Management team with the completion of case files, sorting mail and documentation, and additional desk duty needs; and,
  • Completes home safety inspections at the request of the Refugee Resettlement team and/or Program Manager;
  • Coordinates with Case Managers on all pre-arrival case activities for newly arrived refugees, asylees or parolees, including, but not limited to, housing arrangements and communication with US ties;
  • Identifies any needs and barriers and communicates follow-up to Case Managers and the Program Manager, as needed;
  • Provides transportation for all newly arrived or recently arrived clients as required, or needed, in compliance with child safety laws and local and federal laws regarding COVID-19;
  • Conducts initial airport reception and home safety orientation in coordination with the Refugee Resettlement team;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Completes clients’ applications for Social Security cards, public benefits, and other applicable registrations within the required timeframe;
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of experience working with refugee populations and community services;
  • High School degree or equivalent;
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record and insurance.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Able to collaborate as a team player with staff and clients;
  • Fluency in one of the languages spoken by clients: Tigrinya, Swahili; Pashto, or Arabic;
  • 1-2 year experience working in a medical support setting. Experience working with clients to support their
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of Excel and Word and ability to learn to utilize an internal case
  • Management database;
  • Physical requirements may include, carrying up to 25lbs, loading and unloading donated items, standing and carrying items;
  • Medical needs, including selecting a PCP, follow up on medical appointments, and enrollment with community medical services.
  • Comfortable working in a cross-cultural environment; and,
  • Compassionate and patient toward individuals served and a basic understanding of refugee services
