Job Description

Duties

  • Participates on multidisciplinary teams in the evaluation of student progress.
  • Responsible for the safety and accountability of all participants in the recreation program and reporting all safety violations and accidents to Supervisor.
  • Responsible for budgeting, requisitioning, and maintaining facility equipment and supplies, as well as accountability of accurate inventory and checkout system records.
  • Supervises 20% or less of the time.
  • Responsible for planning, coordinating, scheduling, supervising and implementing a broad recreational program for students with diverse socio-economic backgrounds and individual need.
  • Counsels students about matters relevant to their vocational and academic performance and other related concerns to encourage and motivate them to succeed in the classroom and after graduation.

  • Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.

GS-07:
Specialized Experience Requirement: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level; OR a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR an appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work and include major study in general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education.
Specialized experience is experience that demonstrated the ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty areas of recreation. Examples of specialized experience are: Planned, coordinated, scheduled, supervised, and implemented a broad recreation program; Maintained, inventoried, and kept accurate records of recreational facility equipment; or Developed, updated, and monitored the effectiveness of leisure activities for varied participants.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
