Youth Counselor Jobs

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Department of Human Services (DHS) merged on July 1, 2022, to form one agency, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). We are seeking a Counselor to join the team at the State Training School (STS) in Eldora, which provides supportive counseling and behavioral health treatment for young men, ages 12-18, who were adjudicated delinquent.
This is a full-time opportunity, 5-day (8:00 am – 4:30 pm), work week, Monday through Friday. Occasional nights and weekends may be needed. We offer a strong opportunity for advancement, growth, and development.
The Counselor position provides counseling and related therapy as part of the treatment program for young men. The primary duties include:

• Handling a diverse caseload of emotionally disordered students
• Implementing behavioral modification programs
• Providing both individual and group counseling

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a minimum of twelve semester hours in child development, criminology, mental health, psychology, social work, sociology, or closely related area;

Designated positions in this job class require applicants to obtain the required Chauffeur's License and endorsements within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority at the time of hire.
