The 1232 Racial Equity Trainer will be housed in the Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and primarily responsible for the content and delivery of the Agency’s annual training requirement. Currently, training content is being under development with a City vendor. The Racial Equity Trainer will participate in weekly meetings with the vendor to develop training content, draft agenda for discussion sessions, and administer training content. The Racial Equity Trainer will interface with new employees during new employee orientation to train them about basic racial equity concepts as well as maintain a racial equity e-library, and facilitate racial equity learning sessions for the Agency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

According to Civil Service Commission Rule 109, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job class and are not intended to be an inclusive list; may include additional duties as assigned.

  • Coordinates training programs, facilitated events, seminars, and conferences that involve planning and scheduling the activities of trainers and other support personnel, and arranging facilities.
  • Administer vendor created and internal racial equity training content.
  • Facilitate racial equity learning sessions that include, but not limited to, creating content, presenting, facilitating group discussions, leading, agency-wide group activities and monitoring projects related to racial equity learning.
  • Maintain a racial equity e-library.
  • Researches and prepares written budget estimates, training charges, and/or justifications for the costs of specific training programs, and assists management personnel on fiscal and program decisions.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with the City’s vendor to design, develop, and draft agendas for discussion sessions for racial equity training.
  • Assesses individual, team, and organizational learning needs by analyzing information obtained from assessment tools, interviews, reports, complaints, other documents and/or consultations with other agencies or groups.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of training programs, facilitated events, and seminars, and writes various reports.
  • Designs/adapts appropriate assessment tools or approaches, and collects the necessary information for assessing learning needs, determining appropriate instructional design and content, identifying target populations, and evaluating the effectiveness of previous related training programs.
  • Provides coaching and consulting to managers, supervisors, and employees on a variety of issues.
  • Provides instructional and facilitation guidance to technical experts in areas such as meeting learning goals and objectives, and following professional Training and Development standards.
  • Interact with and train new employees during orientation regarding basic racial equity concepts.
  • Proposes, promotes, and/or markets training programs, facilitated events, seminars, and conferences by writing proposals, and securing support and approval from City or department managers.

Qualifications
  • Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; AND
  • Experience: Two (2) years of verifiable experience designing, organizing, and conducting employee training programs.

Substitution of Education: Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Thirty (30) semester units/forty-five (45) quarter units equal one year of experience.

Substitution of Experience:

  • Verifiable experience in teaching adults and developing lesson plans may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Possession of a Master of Arts degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience; OR

Selection Procedures:

If this becomes necessary, only those applicants whose qualifications most closely meet the needs of the Department will be invited to continue in the selection process.
