This position reports directly to the Technical Service and Quality Lab Manager. This position has no direct reports.
JOB DIMENSIONS
Perform quality control testing of raw materials and products. Maintain the record keeping and work instructions required for the ISO program.
KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
[15%] Participate in plant initiatives and pursue personal and team improvement
- Complete all training assignments on time.
- Complete BBS observations
- Assist in training of new QC Lab Technicians.
- Participate in both personal and team skill development. Help identify areas of weakness and suggest steps for improvement for yourself, your co-workers and the lab.
- Actively participate in daily safety meetings.
- Ensure operational activities and lab performance are aligned with plant/business goals.
- Participate in cross controls
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Take steps necessary to retain all QC Lab technician skills you have developed.
[30%] Perform laboratory sample analyses and promote recycling.
- Ensure produced products meet the specifications and/or expectations of our customers before approving them for sale.
- Ensure recycling of blocked stock when possible based on recycling advice provided by Quality Manager.
- Communicate effectively with plant personnel.
- Operate laboratory instrumentation to complete analysis of all samples including those from production, shipping, recurrence, application lab, and customer.
[15%] Maintain QC Lab equipment and consumable inventory
- Complete inventories, request quotes and submit purchasing orders for QC Lab consumables.
- Complete all required instrument maintenance, service and calibration.
- Ensure correct operation of lab equipment.
- Use troubleshooting skills to identify instrument deviations and problems. Resolve if capable.
[25%] Manage all QC Lab data
- Participate in audits and inspections as requested.
- Develop and use computer skills for various programs including SAP, Excel, Lotus, Success Factor, and all lab instrument software.
- Maintain and file hard copies for all required analyses and calibrations. Retain based on specified company retention policy.
- Ensure accurate data entry into computer programs for all required analyses and calibrations.
[15%] Maintain a safe, environmentally friendly, clean, and organized lab environment
- Complete shift change form daily. The shift change form provides a status of all current samples and equipment as well as provides a guide for tasks required to ensure the lab is in a safe, clean and organized condition prior to the next technicians shift.
- Maintain good housekeeping in both the retain room and QC Lab warehouse storage area.
- Ensure safe laboratory practices are followed including safe handling of chemicals and other laboratory supplies.
- Clean throughout your shift to maintain a safe working environment. Address any spills immediately to protect yourself, your co-workers and the lab equipment from chemical exposure.
- Understand the hazards and risks associated with handling various chemicals.
- Understand plant environmental health and safety regulations and comply with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT
- Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements.
- Personal protective equipment (e.g. respirators and chemical resistant clothing, hard hats, safety eyewear, etc.) that may be required at times will increase the level of physical stress experienced by workers.
- Make independent judgments concerning assigned tasks, considering safety and environmental concerns
- Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.
- Understand the hazards and risks associated with maintenance and repair activities in a chemical manufacturing facility.
- No travel is required.
- The position requires working on rotating shifts (24/7 operations) at the discretion of supervisory and management personnel.
- The position will periodically require overtime to meet production schedules.
- Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.).
- Safely wear and/or use required personal protective equipment.
- Retain knowledge of basic chemistry and chemical hazards and apply this knowledge in daily work activities.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS /WORK EXPERIENCE
- Maintain training required to ship hazardous and dangerous goods internationally and domestically
- The minimum educational or experience requirement is a 2-year technical chemistry degree or 5-7 years of related laboratory experience.
- Computer literacy, with experience in Excel, Word, and Access software.
- Physical requirements include continual standing, and frequent walking and climbing stairs in the plant.
