Cornell Health’s Medical Services is a collaborative, vibrant, innovative, inter-professional department which provides holistic clinical care to address students’ biopsychosocial needs. Working collaboratively with other Cornell Health departments, medical staff aspire to a data-driven approach to provide high-quality, accessible, cost-effective, culturally-sensitive, and developmentally-appropriate care and services to Cornell’s student population, meeting the routine and urgent needs of patients.
The Psychiatry team at Cornell Health provides evaluation and medication management for Cornell students. Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners provide diagnostic and pharmacologic treatment to students, including prescribing and monitoring medication for psychiatric illnesses as well as educating students about their illness and medication. This role provides consultation services to, and collaborates with, staff across Cornell Health including counselor/therapists in Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) and medical clinicians, to ensure continuity of care for each student under Cornell Health’s care. When needed, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will assist with the management of psychiatric emergencies.

- Excellent interpersonal skills that demonstrate knowledge and awareness necessary for working with a highly diverse staff and clientele
Required Qualifications:
- Current certificate to practice as a mental health nurse practitioner in NYS.
- CPR-BLS level certification achieved within one year of employment and maintained biannually, as applicable.
- Sophisticated ability to evaluate the mental health of students across a diverse spectrum of identities, including their appropriateness for psychotropic medications
- Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and wellbeing.
- Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Demonstrated effective leadership skills that include, but are not limited to, the ability to use data to drive decisions, to keep the team’s treatment protocols in line with established best practices, and to offer consultation to various stakeholders
- N.P. with current NYS license (or license-eligible)
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Master’s degree in clinical specialty or equivalent experience and ANCC nurse practitioner certification.
- Experience with an Electronic Health Record and Microsoft office applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to coordinate with colleagues to maintain continuity of patient care and ensure the appropriate management and treatment of medical problems when not physically present at the health center.
- Special expertise in key areas of risk in a college population, such as suicide, substance use, and disordered eating.
- Interest in and concern for health problems encountered in a campus community, including medical and mental health issues and areas where they intersect.
- Knowledge of non-pharmacologically-based interventions for mental health, and recognition of when and how they should be integrated into a treatment plan
- Proficiency in Mandarin, Spanish or any language other than English highly desirable
- Experience working in an integrated ambulatory health care environment.
This position is a full-time, 18-month fixed-term position. Extension of the term appointment is contingent upon funding, successful performance, and business need. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
