Master’s Degree in a Nurse Practitioner Program and National Board Certification in specialty area required.

Takes initial patient histories and performs physical examinations.

Initiates, documents, and communicates the plan of care and follows up to ensure complete screening and preparation of patients.

Writes orders for medications, laboratory work, and diagnostic tests.

Interprets laboratory and test results.

Confers with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care.

Provides specialty medical care in a clinical setting under the supervision of licensed physicians working through physician approved protocols.

Secures and evaluates medical health and developmental history of the patient and provides health maintenance and anticipatory guidance.

Evaluates patients in a clinic.

Performs basic physical assessment using observation, inspection, auscultation, palpation, and percussion.

Executes physician's orders such treatments, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as prescribed in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards.

Assures quality assurance standards are met by following all guidelines of physicians, and clinic.

Assume other related responsibilities as assigned by management

Demonstrates decision-making skills and knowledge in clinical impression, collaboration, consultation, education, mentorship and leadership.

Content knowledge of California Mental Health Law and understanding of the LPS Act and 24-hour Detention.

Functions as part of a team to perform psychiatric evaluation of patients throughout the Scripps Health Care System.

Triage and disposition of behavioral health patients to the level of care that will ensure appropriate utilization of resources.

Responsible for identifying and developing approaches to enhance behavioral health care of all persons throughout the system.

Current California State RN License.

Conduct monthly follow-up/in person online visits. Perform medication management if necessary.

Must have active New York Nurse Practitioner license with Board Certification (PMHNP, FNP or similar).

Minimum one (1) year of post-licensure clinical experience diagnosing and treating patients with mental health conditions and/or ADHD.

Active/non-expired DEA certification (schedule 2-5) for New York preferred.

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

PMHNP certification, CAQ-Psychiatry (PA-C's) or 3+ years of documented psychiatric prescription management are required for this position.

To maintain clinical competence in Psychiatric Nursing, participates in ongoing educational activities to enhance clinical knowledge and update requisite skills.

Independently identifies need for in-service/educational sessions and seeks experience to meet such needs and to maintain clinical skills.

Participates/leads quality improvement and/or research activities as appropriate to the individual's position, education, skills, and practice environment.

If you are relying on your education to meet qualification requirements:

Order, review and interpret findings of relevant diagnostic and laboratory test for management of the mental health patient.

Educate the patient and their family on the psychiatric illness and medication management as appropriate.

Manage psychiatric emergencies - including evaluating the walk-ins coming into the clinic.

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).

Experience working in outpatient mental health settings, including via telehealth

Seek continuing education or other courses as appropriate to meet learning needs and continuing education requirement for licensure.

Requires a thorough working knowledge of public health and primary health care practices, communicable disease epidemiology and concepts.

Requires skill in performing physical examinations, assessment, and diagnosis.

Requires good oral and written communication skills.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Information

Order and dispense medications for treatment of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) in accordance with approved guidelines.

Completion of an accredited physician assistant or nurse practitioner program with appropriate certification exams.

1+ year of experience is preferred.

Primary Job Responsibilities/Tasks may include, but not limited to:
