Job Description

The primary functions of the Project Manager/Estimator position are:

·Management of all administrative aspects for the execution and completion of awarded customer projects.

·Manage the execution of the projects that they have been assigned by the company for safety, maximum customer satisfaction (quality of workmanship, on budget, on time, job-site conduct, accident/injury free, etc.) and optimum profitability for the company.

·Develop and maintain a strong relationship with Demolition Manager and field personnel in order to foster mutual respect and trust resulting in a true TEAM approach to executing projects.

·Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers resulting in an unparalleled reputation and continued repeat/referral work.

·Generate accurate project cost estimates for use in preparing bids and proposals for projects.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this position successfully, the PM/E must be able to complete all tasks and fulfill all responsibilities for this position in a satisfactory manner while achieving company goals and objectives as defined and approved by the General Manager.Following are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities necessary to meet the requirements of this position.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


EDUCATION

Required: High school diploma.

Preferred: College degree and/or coursework related to Engineering, Construction Management, Sales & Marketing, and/or Business Management. Verifiable employment of at least 10 years in a like position may be considered.


LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION

Required: Valid and current driver’s license (driving record must be acceptable to the company's insurance carrier).

Preferred: Contractor’s License issued by any state.Any professional certification related to demolition or construction work.


EXPERIENCE

Required: A minimum of three (3) years of prior verifiable experience in a business involved in or related to demolition or construction.

Preferred: Successful experience as a Project Manager, Estimator and/or Sales Representative for a demolition firm.Prior experience managing in a union environment would be very helpful.


REPRESENTATIVE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

·Must be skilled at initiating, building, and maintaining healthy relationships with customers as well as HWC field personnel, vendors, sub-contractors, and the community at large.Customers typically include industrial facilities managers, general contractors, construction managers, architects, and consulting engineers.

·Must have managerial skills including, but not limited to:

oLeadership and team building skills; specifically, the ability to work effectively with other project stake-holders (both within this company and outside the company) to form and maintain an effective project team.

oAbility to work within established policies and procedures while assuring accomplishment of company and individual project goals & objectives.

oGoal setting and planning skills.

oDecision making skills.

oProblem solving skills.

oConflict resolution skills.

oCommunication skills, both verbal and in writing including the ability to deliver verbal presentations to individuals and groups.English is required; multi-lingual (Spanish) could be advantageous.

oFinancial management skills including the ability to understand financial reports, interpret the data, and make sound business decisions based on the financial information.

·A thorough understanding of demolition industry standards in regards to safe work practices including OSHA standards related to our business.

·The ability to utilize effective sales & marketing strategies for obtaining bidding opportunities for the company.

·The ability to capitalize on bidding opportunities to obtain awarded projects.

·A thorough working knowledge of the means/methods and the technologies involved in demolition and construction and the relevant building codes and regulatory requirements for demolition work. The ability to read and understand industry/trade information and to stay current on industry trends.This includes maintaining a high level of knowledge of the products and services offered both by this company and its competitors.

·The ability to quickly and correctly understand project requirements and develop accurate cost estimates and proposals for projects where the customer has supplied specifications and construction drawings, as well as for projects where these formal documents are not available.

·The ability to plan, execute, and manage effective strategies for managing multiple awarded projects to assure accomplishment of all of the customers’ project objectives while controlling costs and maximizing gross profit margins.

·The ability to understand all requirements for documentation and record keeping on multiple projects and to assure that all documentation and record keeping needs are met either directly or with assistance from Project Administrators.

·The ability to do routine business mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, percentages, ratios, decimals, geometry, etc.).

·Knowledge of and the ability to manage within AIA (American Institute of Architects) requirements, as they pertain to commercial and industrial construction projects, for construction record keeping, and progress billings.

·Must be proficient in the use and application of technology to enhance productivity.This includes computer- based and web-based systems such as MS Project, Word and Excel, CRM systems, etc.

PHYSICAL

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the PM/E to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:

·MOBILITY: The PM/E must have sufficient mobility to access all areas of the company shop and offices without assistance.Similarly, the PM/E must have sufficient mobility to travel to customer locations and access any necessary areas of those customer locations without assistance.

·DEXTERITY:The PM/E must have sufficient dexterity to operate office machines and equipment (computers and similar devices).

·STRENGTH:Lifting is not a routine function of this position; but must have the ability to load or unload tools or materials on occasion.

MENTAL SKILLS

The following representative mental skills are necessary to assure that the PM/E can successfully perform the position’s essential functions:

·MATHEMATICAL:Must have the ability to use basic mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, percentages, ratios, decimals, geometry, etc.).

·LANGUAGE:Must be able to communicate effectively in English both written and verbal. This position requires the ability to make formal and informal presentations to individuals and groups.Multilingual capabilities are not required, but could be an advantage. The ability to write letters, email, correspondence, etc. in a professional manner is required.

·MECHANICAL:Must thoroughly understand the mechanical workings of the equipment used for demolition and construction including its capabilities, limitations, and appropriateness for various tasks.Must also thoroughly understand the mechanics and engineering attributes of the various structures and substructures typically encountered during demolition and construction projects.An understanding of the basic concepts of Engineering is necessary.

·SPATIAL:Must be able to visualize and understand project requirements and specifications based on plans, drawings, blueprints, and sketches.Conversely, must be able to create a visualization of a project in the form of readable and understandable drawings or sketches.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The Project Manager/Estimator will normally work indoors in a heated and air-conditioned office environment.Some of the position responsibilities will require the PM/E to be at project sites which may not be heated or air conditioned.When visiting customers and job sites, the PM/E will encounter varying temperatures and weather conditions.Normal auto and air travel hazards apply.

The noise level in the normal work environment is generally low, but will be higher when at job sites.Hearing protection may be required at job sites.

Working hours will generally be during normal business hours but may include the need to work any or all seven days of the week.The normal workday is eight hours and the normal workweek is 40 hours.The PM/E is expected to work longer hours and to adjust start and stop times when necessary to accomplish the position duties and to support business needs.
