Job Description

The primary function of an estimator is to develop cost estimates on routine and complex jobs as required by customer requests either provided directly or through our sales department. Additionally, working hand in hand with our other customer service, production, sales, finance and management in the custom manufacturing of our bindery inserts. The ideal individual will be an integral part of the CCL's manufacturing workflow, have an awareness of all bindery related activities and must be able to successfully complete projects in a timely manner and interact with the entire CCL team.


Responsibilities

  • Maintains strong equipment and capabilities knowledge for project verification and planning.
  • Manages overall raw material inventory to reduce inventory aging.
  • Provides improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.
  • Must comply with all departmental SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures), company GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices), Employee Handbook Policies, including attendance, and all safety rules and standards.
  • Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Interfaces with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates.
  • Reviews data to determine material and labor requirements.
  • Works with Accounting on CM analysis and investigation.
  • Works with Customer Service to help write consistent instructions for Production.
  • Recommends raw material substitutions to maximize product costs.
  • Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, preparing bids, selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness.
  • Organizes and manages a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating to ensure historical data is utilized.
  • Oversees all raw materials to ensure that inventory levels are optimized and working capital goals are achieved.
  • Sources material to initiate and oversee trials for new products/applications.
  • Works with General Manager to review raw materials to ensure that the best price is negotiated with vendors as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Validates pricing on repeat orders not kept on the customer price sheets.


Qualifications

  • Must have a good understanding of all printing/bindery processes and constructions.
  • Bachelor's degree (BA) from a four-year college or university; or five to ten years related experience and/or training.
