Project Accountant Jobs

Arch Builders is seeking a Project Accountant. The position will be based full time in our New York City headquarters. The position will be responsible for monitoring all construction project accounting, overseeing payroll, and maintaining and producing all corporate accounting. This role will report directly to the Director of Accounting for Arch Companies. The Senior Project Accountant must be a flexible and adaptable team-player with strong organizational, managerial and communication skills. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing construction firm that works closely with the in-house development arm of Arch.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with project managers to project and monitor general conditions budgets
• Prepare, issue, and review all corporate financial statements including AP aging, Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Statement of Cash Flows, and inter-company payables/receivables and review them with the Director of Accounting
• Review payroll for accuracy and check for appropriate reimbursement via general conditions
• Monitor system for tracking of all payments and expenditures, purchase orders, invoices, statements, etc. for both hard and soft costs
• Conduct periodic reconciliations of accounts to ensure their accuracy
• Maintain an organized and streamlined accounting system with many vendor accounts while staying in compliance with company policies and procedures.
• Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements
• Must have prior experience with Purchase Order processes and systems, preferably in a construction environment
• Mentor and train project accountants
• Monitor project progress, review AIA’s and Draw Requestion Reports developed by project accountant and project manager for accuracy
• Oversee payment is received for outstanding credit; accurately review, code, and process various credit card accounts
• Prepare cash needs reports
• Act as liaison between accounting and project management to ensure accurate and consistent billing and financial reports

Experience, Skills and Abilities Required

• Minimum 4 - 6 years prior accounting experience
• Ability to keep records and files organized; keen attention to detail
• Competent collaborator and skilled cross-functional communicator
• Desire to work in a fast paced and entrepreneurial environment
• Strong time manager with respect for deadlines
• Ability to build and foster a strong team environment
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks
• Experience with a reputable CPA is preferred
• Construction accounting experience & familiarity with all AIA forms is a must
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Minimum Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration or another similar field
• Self-starter, dedicated and professional demeanor
• Notary preferred
• Highly ethical with an ability to maintain and safeguard sensitive information
• Knowledge of bookkeeping and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

Please note: This is not a remote position. However, there is potential for a hybrid schedule after six months

Salary range: $85 - $105k*

*Actual compensation within the range will be dependent upon the individual's experience, skills, and qualifications. It is not typical for candidates to be hired at or near the top of the range.
