CHIEF ACCOUNTANT
Position based in our NYC Corporate Office (NOT REMOTE)
Scope of Position
The Chief Accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing all accounting operations of the company in Canada, ensuring compliance with both International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the company's global accounting policies. The Chief Accountant reports directly to the Head of Finance and works closely with other areas, including Treasury and Tax.
Role and Responsibilities
Research and deliver a full range of Financial knowledge in compliance with Accounting Standards:
- Handle supervision of all entities financial accounting (A/R, A/P, G/L) through Corporate systems.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels, manage work allocations, and provide support to resolve accounting-related issues.
- Stay updated on changes in accounting regulations and proactively ensure compliance.
- Analytical review: Provide insightful financial analysis, identify unusual deviations, and take corrective actions.
- Coordinate with external auditors during audits.
- Supervision of the Intercompany cost allocation performed by the A/P department to control no differences between entities. Confirm that the monthly intercompany recharges have been invoiced.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS and company policies.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment, promoting teamwork and professional growth opportunities.
- Lead and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
- Coordinate and review the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Collaborate with department heads to develop accurate cost allocation.
- Inventory leftover (Donation/Sales to Dealers) – responsible to book any entries related to the sales to dealers, communicating and ensuring that monies are received from third party based on the agreed contract.
- Supervision of fixed assets to review the reasonableness of depreciation expense and NBV per store, BPC control of acceptable accounting system movements, control CIP for store opening dates, and closed stores with movements.
- Monthly close controls ‐ Request from departments any and all services performed and not billed for monthly accrual.
- Responsible for day to day finance and accounting operations, responsible for the review of transactions booked by the finance team, e.g. accounts payable aging, review classification for all l/t and s/t accounts, doubtful debtors, etc.
- Supervision of Leases accounting impacts, deferred rent calculation, review to confirm key dates which will ensure accuracy of schedule. Confirm that all signed leases have their corresponding schedule, that all possession letters have been received from landlord, realign any schedules where there was a change in opening and/or closing date.
- Preparation and submission of required financial reports to the corporate headquarters in Spain and regulatory local authorities.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Min 5 years’ experience in financial and management accounting particularly in the Retail industry. Preferably in multinational organizations or subsidiaries of foreign companies.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, financial reporting standards.
- Experience with SAP systems and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Fluent in English (Spanish is a plus)
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A CPA or equivalent certification is highly desirable.

Annual compensation range: $86,000 - $137,000 + discretionary annual bonus
