Job Description
Role Overview:
The Procedural Training Specialist is responsible for providing primary bio-skills laboratory support to Health Care Professionals (HCPs), Allied Healthcare Professional (ACHs) and Smith+Nephew colleagues attending local, regional, and national level Medical Education events. This position will be responsible for providing HCPs with technical procedural support, set up/ clear up, troubleshooting assistance. The Procedural Training Specialist will collaborate with the commercial, fellowship engagement, and Medical Education teams to plan and execute local sales labs, fellowship engagement labs, and Medical Education events within the defined territory. Individuals are expected to work on problems with moderate complexity and impact. They exercise judgment within the confines of defined procedure or practice and applies knowledge and experience to create procedures and receives minimal guidance for routine tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide expert practical guidance:
  • Troubleshooting in S+N equipment and general laboratory equipment.
  • Provide primary support and expert practical guidance to HCPs and AHPs during courses and labs, both in the field and in S+N Academies.
  • Communicating and demonstrating the use of surgical instruments and implants to maximise the learning opportunities.
Delivering surgical training sessions:
  • Assist with the training of Sales Reps, Marketing staff, Research and Development staff, VP and Director level hires.
  • Work closely with cross franchises - Sales, Sales Training, Medical Education, Research and Development and Marketing to facilitate medical professional visits to conduct training on the safe and effective use of Smith and Nephew products.
  • Ensuring that the surgical training sessions are delivered to exceed the needs of the customers and the business. Actively participate in the surgical training sessions.
  • Handling human tissue specimens in compliance with local SOPs and the local governing bodies.
  • Required to carry out any reasonable requests to perform other duties as may be required within the scope of the job title.
Maintenance of laboratory equipment, and stock levels:
  • Responsible for all activities associated with the running of the laboratory and its maintenance (equipment upkeep, specimen care, control of consumables and PPE stock and general laboratory housekeeping duties such as regular deep cleans).
  • Troubleshooting and escalations to Senior Specialist and/or manager.
Health and Safety:
  • Responsible for adherence to all HSE requirements including SDS maintenance and recordkeeping.
  • Ensure compliance to the terms of the human tissue licence.
  • Ensure cadaveric material is acquired, stored, used and disposed of in accordance with the HTA codes of practice.
  • Responsible for adherence to all HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) requirements including SDS maintenance and site related recordkeeping.
Training and compliance:
  • Writing and reviewing SOPs and risk assessments.
  • Ongoing knowledge development of S+N’s products and use across all franchises.
Location: Chicago, IL
Travel: 50-75% Domestic travel. Occasional travel within Americas region
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: BS or MS in Science related degrees (Surgical Technology, RN, PA-C), or equivalant experience.
Experience:
Essential:
  • At least three years’ experience of working in a medical or laboratory environment.
  • Knowledge of surgical products and procedures relevant to S+N’s areas of business.
  • Experience of working with health care professionals, particularly in a surgical setting.
  • Awareness of health and safety precautions in handling biological materials.
  • Experience working in a customer-facing role
Desirable:
  • Experience of handling human cadaveric tissues and working under the terms of the local governing body.
  • Experience of working in a training environment and providing practical training.
Competencies:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Work with inventory management systems and document management systems such as SAP are ideal.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Other:
  • Exceptionally well organised and self-directed – making decisions and act with limited supervision.
  • Very high level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent team player and contributor.
  • Must be highly flexible with regards to work duties and working hours.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
When preparing for and assisting with courses there is a considerable element of manual handling of instruments/specimens and standing/walking.
The job involves an element of desk/VDU work.
The anticipated compensation range for this position is $86,000.00 - $90,000.00 USD annually and the compensation offered will depend on the candidate’s qualifications. You may also be entitled to receive bonus and benefits, which may include medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401k, tuition reimbursement, medical leave programs, and a variety of wellness offerings.
