ABOUT LIBERTY SEARCH VENTURESLiberty Search Ventures (“LSV”) is an NYC-based institutional investment firm that partners with passionate executives and operators to invest in industry-leading small- and mid-sized businesses. With committed capital from limited partners, LSV provides patient and flexible capital for liquidity or growth with a long-term approach to building and growing businesses in partnership with founders and management.
Search Fund Investing
We partner with entrepreneurs to acquire companies which will then be led by the entrepreneur. LSV is a minority investor alongside a consortium of other minority investors and works with the searcher- entrepreneurs to identify, diligence, negotiate, and execute the acquisition of a high-quality small business. Post-close we work with the searcher-entrepreneur to grow the company.
Through our search fund portfolio, we have partnered with 60 entrepreneurs and acquired interests in 25+ portfolio companies since LSV’s inception. This strategy is a diversified approach that spans industries, geographies, and business models.
Platform Investing
LSV acquires controlling interests in a small number of high-quality businesses with the goal of compounding capital over a longer hold period than a typical private equity fund. Our platforms represent opportunities to invest larger amounts of equity ($10-30 million per platform), often over time as a management team proves out its thesis.
This platform strategy is a low-volume, concentrated approach with a higher degree of involvement in operating activities.
POSITION – ANALYSTThis is a 2–3-year employment opportunity, with the potential for promotion and remaining with the group after the program. The Analyst will work closely with LSV’s Associate, along with other members of LSV’s investment team,
to assist in the execution of new investments and in managing portfolio companies. The role requires varying levels of involvement in all aspects of private equity/search fund investing, including:
·Assisting in the production of key financial analysis and investment deliverables, including financial models, investment memos, and recommendations
·Supporting the due diligence, valuation, and execution effort for new acquisitions
·Performing ad-hoc analysis for existing portfolio companies, developing investment theses and prospective transactions
·Preparing investment committee materials that include updates on existing portfolio companies as well as prospective transactions and deal flow
·Preparing quarterly investor deliverables
·Assisting in the screening of new opportunities, including sourcing and screening new searchers
·Interfacing with and providing support to search partners
·Managing and maintaining all data and analytics software
·Tracking industries important to LSV to learn the key drivers and trends that influence decisions
BENEFITS OF WORKING AT LSVBecause of the work we do with search fund entrepreneurs, the Analyst role at LSV is not a typical private equity role. A few of the benefits of LSV’s Analyst program include:
·Direct, daily interaction with and mentorship by senior members of the LSV team
·Direct exposure to CEOs in a small group or one-on-one settings
·Small team with plenty of opportunity for the Analyst to make an impact on LSV’s investing process and on its portfolio company’s operations and strategy
·Entrepreneurial work environment and a role in building LSV’s business
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEA bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics or equivalent training is required. A minimum of one year of investment banking, private equity, M&A advisory, or management consulting work experience is required, with a preference for at least two years of experience.
Because of our work with search fund entrepreneurs, a strong interest in entrepreneurship and small business is preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSThe ideal candidate must possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities and mindset:
·Strong financial modeling ability with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word
·A strong interest in and passion for investing and business
·Excellent quantitative abilities and analytical skills with proven understanding of financial statements
