The Principal of Public Relations develops and implements media strategies for L3Harris executives; major programs and company initaitives; and enterprise-wide events, such as Tier 1 trade shows. Working in partnership with the Director of Public Relations, they will maintain enterprise-wide messaging and narratives; monitor ongoing media coverage and track relevant media metrics; and enhance standards and best practices across for press releaeses, interviews and other relevant activities. The selected candidate will build and maintain relationships with key reporters; draft and edit press releases and interview prep documents; and distribute daily news clips to leadership. They should be an expert in AP style, with exemplary writing skills and a proven track record of clear and effective communications to media and other stakeholders. The nature of L3Harris’ work requires an innovative approach to Public Relations and the ability to distill complex, technical information into common language.

The role reports to the Director of Public Relations.

Essential Functions:

• Build and maintain relationships with the media and other relevant influencers; manage corporate media lists
• Monitor ongoing media coverage; support crisis monitoring and response
• Support opportunities that help establish company or its representatives as industry experts and trusted sources of knowledge
• Develop and execute responses to Tier 1 queries; support other segment queries as needed
• In collaboration with vendors, serve as a daily newsletter editor/distribute news clips
• Serve as AP style expert when reviewing enterprise-wide press releases; develop and/or edit press releases or other materials for corporate initiatives and segment campaigns
• Collect and report relevant media metrics
• Develop executives’ media positions and/or thought leadership strategies; execute appropriately
• Develop and execute proactive Public Relations/Media Relations engagement strategies that further L3Harris’ position as the industry’s Trusted Disruptor
• Partner with global Communications team members to execute integrated communications and marketing campaigns
• Perform benchmarking exercises that help identify and test new trends and tactics
• Prepare media briefing materials for media engagements; manage media interviews for senior leaders
• Provide media training to senior leaders and subject matter experts
• Support creation and updates of enterprise-wide messaging and Q/A documents for key programs, technologies and initiatives
• Support development of annual corporate reports and/or quarterly events like Earnings
• Carry out additional activities as assigned by management

Qualifications:

• 8 years of experience in Journalism, Public Relations or Communications
• Bachelor’s Degree with 12 years of prior related experience in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, English or Master’s Degree with 10 years of of equivalent work experience - In lieu of a degree, 16 years of prior related experience

Preferred Additional Skills:

• Experience working with and influencing cross-functional/cross-divisional teams
• Knowledge of defense media; existing media relationships and/or knowledge of publications
• Writing and editing skills
• Possess a understanding of the role that earned media/influencers have in today’s environment
• AP Style
• Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, under with deadlines
• Experience using media monitoring, distribution and tracking tools to analyze coverage
• Experience writing about the defense, science or technology
• Ability to develop cooperative relationships with all levels of management and staff
• A collaborative and effective team member and leader with a positive approach who can think outside the box and problem solve in real time
• Organized with a proven ability to plan, coordinate and track projects from start to close
