Job Description
We are reinventing global trade.

We believe global trade can move the human race forward. That’s why it’s our mission to make global trade easy for everyone.

Flexport today connects almost 10,000 clients and suppliers across 116 countries, including established global brands like Georgia-Pacific as well as emerging innovators like Sonos.

With offices on three continents, our team is as global as our client base. Wherever you are, whichever role you play, you’re guaranteed to share your day with passionate and resourceful team members who are in it together.

The opportunity:

The Global Partnerships team is building a Certified Partner Network for the 100+ countries where Flexport does not operate directly. Partners provide global reach and the local presence and expertise to complete Flexport’s global offering. Flexport provides technology and processes for Partners to seamlessly integrate into the operation, such that operating through a Partner is indistinguishable from operating directly with Flexport. The Client experience should be seamless - no matter who is moving the freight.

As a Principal of Partnership Strategy & Implementation in the Global Partnerships team, you will programmatically lead the network strategy, collaborate with legal and compliance to design contracts that meet your vision, and lead due diligence and negotiations for our most strategic partnerships. You will define new business models, set tenets for who we partner with and under what model, and drive implementation of these models through regional partnership teams. You will own the business requirements and management of our legal contracts in order to bring the tenets and business models to life. You will opportunistically pursue deeper partnerships through strategic contracts that create win-win opportunities for Flexport and our partners. You will operate at both a strategic and operational level and engage with stakeholders from the executive to front line level. If you love going from concept to implementation across multiple different business models, this role is for you!

You will:

  • Influence and negotiate priorities with other teams, and determine where to simplify or extend solutions for the best outcome
  • Scope, prioritize, and lead projects that will improve Flexport’s partner strategy
  • Drive contract development and management by establishing business requirements, collaborating with legal, training regional teams on our legal requirements and rolling out to partners around the world
  • Bring your vision to life by programmatically implementing new business models with the regional partnership teams
  • Opportunistically explore and due diligence strategic partnerships agreements, including but not limited to investment opportunities, warrants, equity stakes, and commercial agreements.
  • Work and lead both tactically and strategically
  • Handle complex problems/efforts, decisions and escalations
  • Lead regional network strategy reviews to deep dive into each country’s operating models, partners, and performance to continuously improve our partnership models, tenets, and network design
  • Set the partnership network strategy by defining and building new partnership models (i.e. business-in-a-box, multi-sourced vs. strategically sourced, insourced vs. partner led)

You should have:

  • Proven ability to negotiate complex deals
  • BA/BS in Business, Engineering, Finance, Accounting or related field
  • 15+ years of professional experience including P&L management, vendor, client or partner management, program management, and/or financial due diligence
  • A "compliance first" attitude to keep our regulators happy and enthusiastic about Flexport since we operate in a heavily regulated industry.
  • MBA or JD preferred
