This is a Principal Technical Engineer (Principal DBA) position, responsible for supporting the organization’s Postgres databases and ensuring their performance, availability, and security. The Lead is viewed as an expert in the administration and support of database technology. The candidate is expected to communicate common goals and direction for the team and also provide superior technical leadership.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Experience in managing Amazon RDS implementation of Postgres.
  • Experience in managing AWS services required for PostgreSQL.
  • Experience in managing AWS CLI options for databases on EC2 and RDS platform.
  • Familiarity with managing versions and deployment in RDS and on-premises servers.
  • Must have experience in managing PostgreSQL databases (EnterpriseDB, and community edition), EFM, PEM and BART in a AIX/Linux environment.
  • Experience in configuration with S3,EC2.
  • Experience with Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Jenkins is required.
  • Experience in managing database, deployment, monitoring and benchmarking statistics in
openshift environment.
  • Experience in creating shell sripts(Linux, Python).
  • Experience and familiarity in creating YAML config files for ansible and openshift applications.
  • Experience in connection management using options like LDAP and Kerberos on PostgreSQL
  • Experience with latest PG community contrib modules/projects would be plus.
  • Experience with PL/PGSQL (triggers, functions) is required.

  • Must have understanding of end to end PostgreSQL architecture.
  • Must be able to fix routine issues like startup failures, client connection failures etc.
  • Must have complete understanding of setup, maintenance and replication in PostgreSQL.
  • Understanding of Postgres database, catalogs, table space, File layout and Physical storage.
  • Must have performance tuning experience.

  • Provide Oncall rotational 24/7 Incident Response to database alerts from production monitoring
tools and Command Center personnel.
  • Analyze Key Performance Metrics and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Provide input on the selection and implementation of all database administration tools.
  • Maintain the integrity of data within the production environment including the execution of
proper backup and restoration policies and procedures which provide point-in-time restore
capabilities (disaster recovery).
  • Deploy database changes in strict accordance with change management policies and procedures.
  • Interact and coordinate work with System Administrators, Project Managers and fellow team

  • Exposure to automation and DevOps tools a plus (Jenkins, GitHub, Ansible Tower, Terraform)

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM KINOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUUIRED:
  • Minimum of 6 years of Postgres database administration experience and production
  • Bachelor's degree in CS/MIS or equivalent experience.

  • Experience with other databases such as Redis, or DB2 LUW a plus.
  • Experience working with very large database partitioning.
  • Experience with evaluating and consolidating database workloads to maximize hardware

  • Solid understanding of client tools used to connect to PostgreSQL databases.
  • Prefer that the candidate has worked in an onshore/offshore model.
  • In-depth knowledge of Postgres utilities.
  • Hands on experience with performance tuning of complex SQLs.
  • Prefer experience with Erwin or RDA data modeling tools.
  • Candidate must have excellent communication skills.
