Job Description

Sage Bionetworks is seeking a Communications and Marketing Manager to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in developing and managing communications and marketing strategies to reach a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders. Experience working in a research setting with a diverse team of research scientists, design and software engineers, and governance professionals to develop and implement a marketing and communications strategy is a plus / is desired. Communications goals include raising awareness of Sage Bionetworks, positioning the organization as a thought leader, and supporting open science initiatives.


What you’ll be doing:


External communications:


  • In partnership with the leadership team, develop, lead and execute a communications and marketing plan (annual and/or multi-year) that aligns with Sage Bionetworks' goals of maximizing dissemination of knowledge in the biomedical sciences
  • Work with the design team to further develop the organization’s branding materials, including our visual identity and specific graphics, photos, and other visual assets that support communications
  • Develop relationships with the press related to the placement of Sage related articles and press releases
  • Create a suite of product-specific marketing materials and resources to be used by Sage clients and partners
  • Plan, coordinate, and communicate around hosting external conferences
  • Coordinate communications, including writing and/or editing content for press releases, emails, testimonials and case studies, and social media campaigns
  • Define metrics for outreach success and analyze results; forecast external audience growth and engagement
  • Plan and develop outreach communications and marketing materials utilizing various communication vehicles (ie. newsletters, blogs, social media, website and events) to increase community knowledge, disseminate data, and encourage engagement with Sage’s open science initiatives
  • Develop and lead our organization's online social networking, including newsletter, and digital media accounts (e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) to help achieve marketing goals
  • Help define key messages tailored to our specific audiences and their unique needs, from developers, to researchers, to funders


Internal communication:


  • Help reinforce culture and values
  • Use communications to cross-pollinate information between internal team initiatives.
  • Organize speaker series, Sage’s community efforts


We’d love to hear from you if you have:


  • Bachelor’s degree in any field
  • Proven effective and efficient communication skills applicable to a diverse audience
  • Curiosity and interest in learning new projects and tools
  • Experience writing and editing copy
  • Strong project management skills
  • Minimum of 10+ years of communications and marketing experience
  • Familiarity with CMS, marketing analytics tools, and SEO
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office; Experienced in Photoshop, Adobe Suite and social media tools

At Sage, we engage equitable workplace strategies to ensure fair compensation. Actual compensation is dependent upon current market data, experience, and pay parity within our organization. This position is a Principal level position, with a compensation range of $128,242 to $158,418.
