Job Description
The E.W. Scripps Company is seeking a Payroll Administrator II. The administrator will have strong customer service and problem-solving skills to administer payroll services and HR administration in an outsourced environment. The role is responsible for the day-to-day activities for timekeeping, processing and correcting time records, submitting items for payment, and answering payroll inquiries via a ticketing system. The administrator also acts as a liaison between the outside service provider and HR business partners across the company. This is a remote position located in Cincinnati, OH.


WHAT YOU'LL DO:


  • Research and respond timely and accurately to employee and manager payroll inquiries submitted by a ticketing system. Escalate issues to Payroll Management as needed.
  • Serve as a backup for other payroll team members.
  • Assist the Payroll Management with Federal, State, and Local payroll tax issues and the year-end process (review of W-2 forms prepared by outside service provider)
  • Communicate payroll issues to Payroll Management, and the outside service provider as required.
  • Assist with the payroll activities for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures as required.
  • Assist with the review, requirements documentation for outside payroll provider and testing of time off plans and time calculations for new or renewals of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Process various forms, including but not limited to, on-demand check requests, stop payments, check reversals, etc., as necessary.
  • Work with outside service provider and internal stakeholders to ensure all payroll policies and payroll-related controls are being followed.
  • Remit Union Dues and charitable contributions for payment and distribute union reports to HRBPs and union representatives.
  • Act as the escalation point for payroll issues from the outside service provider and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage the review of bi-weekly timecards.
  • Provide reporting and other HR/Payroll related tasks as required.
  • Update employee records (new hires, transfers, etc.) in the HRMS in support of the timekeeping system, as required.
  • Manage the submission of one-time payments (taxable gift cards, allowances, commissions, bonus, etc.)
  • Resolve payroll and timekeeping issues and proactively handle work related issues.
  • Participate in any audit or controls and compliance activities as necessary.
  • Assist in the creation and processing of standard and ad-hoc reports containing HR and payroll related information to meet internal and external reporting requirements and operational reviews.


WHAT YOU'LL NEED:


  • Associate degree in business, accounting, or human resources preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with HR systems.
  • Minimum of three years of payroll experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with handling payroll for employees covered by collective bargaining agreements.
  • Previous experience working with an outside payroll provider preferred.


WHAT YOU'LL BRING:


  • Excellent organizational and customer consulting skills; able to interpret policies and procedures and work closely with HR business partners and outsourcing contacts to ensure those policies and/or procedures are carried out appropriately.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop good relationships via phone as well as in person.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel (must be able to do basic formulas and willing to learn additional, if needed) and the other Microsoft Office products.
