Parent Advocate - Part-Time

You'd be joining a team of dedicated staff providing supportive family housing services to families who are involved with DCP&P.

What You'll Do As a Parent Advocate

• Assist parents in their recovery and wellness.
• Engage and work closely with parents to understand their story, strengths and needs.
• Work collaboratively with their treatment team in determining the steps clients need to take in order to achieve their goals toward family stabilization.
• Assist parents in identifying their strengths, supports and resources to aid them in achieving their goals.
• Using appropriate self-disclosure, share one's own experience to help explore a parent's motivation for change.
• Support parents in removing barriers toward service plan compliance with the division.
• Community outreach and networking with community-based providers.
• Assist parents in developing empowerment skills and combating stigma through self-advocacy.
• Use a non-judgmental, compassionate, empowering approach to enhance a parent's desire for change.
• Co-facilitate groups for parents, children and families

What You'll Need

• Must relate well to others.
• Experience implementing Motivational Interviewing preferred.
• Strong work ethic; comfortable working independently.
• Must have lived experience and be at least 2 years substance free.
• Experience working with DCP&P involved families preferred.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license, use of an insured vehicle and an acceptable driving record.
