The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Department of Human Services (DHS) merged on July 1, 2022, to form one agency, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). We are seeking an Oral Health Community Health Consultant.
This community health consultant (CHC) serves as the state point of contact providing leadership for the I-Smile program. This includes leadership and guidance to the I-Smile™ Coordinators working with the assigned Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Title V agencies and other staff including MCH project directors at the local level on implementation of the I-Smile™ Program. I-Smile Coordinators are public health dental hygienists who work to build local infrastructure, provide care coordination for families and gap-filling direct services as needed.
This position also provides oral health consultation to Title V MCH agencies to develop work plans and activities that meet the needs of the local community and adhere to state requirements, including linkages with local boards of health. This work will also include providing oversight for the overall local Title V agency oral health program including communication in written and verbal format with IDPH programs and other state agencies and local partners to support the partner relationships and report progress towards achieving the vision and mission of the Bureau and updates on oral and other aspect of health care.
The CHC will serve as lead oral health representative to the MCH Medicaid team to represent the Oral Health Bureau for the interagency agreement with the Iowa HHS Medicaid Division, which includes developing annual work plans and year end reports as well as advocating for policy changes that help local agencies provide better oral health services to families.

225 Dental Hygienist
Possession of an active license, as issued by the Iowa Dental Board, to practice as a Dental Hygienist in the State of Iowa.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in nursing, a human services or health-oriented field, or education, or nutrition and three years of professional experience in these areas;
