Reporting directly to the Administrative Director for Operations for the Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine and the Chief of Pediatric Anesthesia, the Pediatric Anesthesia Operations Manager provides operational management and project management for the Division of Pediatric Anesthesia.
The incumbent plays an integral role in the management of Pediatric Anesthesia resources, structure and clinical operation flow across the hospital. Supports the overall clinical and administrative operation of the Division.
This position requires strong leadership skills, strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal and facilitation skills and keen analytical skills. Drawing on a broad understanding of hospital practices and departmental policies and displaying a high degree of initiative and independent judgment, the incumbent will continually assess Division performance and productivity in relation to established goals and standards and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implementation agreed upon strategies.
Cultivates processes improvements focused on safe, comprehensive and high-quality patient care. Manages and optimizes operational flow, supporting clinical demands by collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, executive leaders and clinical services. Requires strong leadership skills on collaborating across multiple departments and gathers input from key stakeholders to navigate potential barriers.
- Identifies best practices related to the scheduling issues of this complex patient population; coordinates multidisciplinary care.
- Maintain the Division Chief’s calendar, scheduling meetings as needed or requested
- Manages all aspects of the Clinical Enhanced Recovery After Surgery initiatives as well as all other assigned patient care initiatives.
- Manages Pediatric Anesthesia Division Clinical Operations to ensure optimal and efficient utilization.
- Manages Pediatric Anesthesia physician schedules including vacation, meetings, call, and clinical commitment.
- Maintain the Division Chief’s calendar, scheduling meetings as needed or requested
- Efficiently manages the OR schedule releasing rooms, when appropriate, and managing add-on cases.
- Works collaboratively with leadership and various health care services, and the Division Chief of Pediatric Anesthesia to optimize operational efficiency across the Pediatric Anesthesia Division.
- Manages all operational and administrative functions for the Pediatric Anesthesia Division
- This includes administrative support to the Pediatric Anesthesia Team
- Coordinate orientation for Pedi Anesthesia Residents
- Develops clinical process improvement action plans and provides leadership and mentoring to ensure implementation.
- This includes administrative support to the Pediatric Anesthesia Team
- Creates Daily Deployment schedule which is approved by the team leader of Pedi Anesthesia
- Excellent interpersonal/ communication skills.
- Ability to make decisions quickly and independently; must also understand when to escalate issues.
- 5+ years in a health care organization strongly preferred
- Master’s degree in health care management, business, public health preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field required.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to work in a dynamic organization with shifting priorities and adjust priorities accordingly.
- Exceptional computer skills
- Good command of the English language, including medical and scientific terminology.
- Strategic thinking & facilitation: Ability to think and address strategic and clinical demands.
- Ability to take initiative and proactively identify problems and propose solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work with clinical staff strongly encouraged. Work directly with individuals at all levels of the organization, including clinicians and leadership.
- Experience managing projects and working relationships in a matrix organization.
- Ability to work independently, as well as a member of a multidisciplinary team
- Exceptional organizational skills and the flexibility to handle multiple tasks and deadline pressures.
