Occupational Safety Manager - Safety And Security

The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Department of Safety and Security is seeking an Occupational Safety Manager. Under direct supervision of the Director of Safety and Security, this position is responsible for administering a safety management system, which aligns an institutional response for loss control to defend health and safety risks within university departments. The system focuses on risk control by establishing, implementing, and continuously reviewing compliance programs and key management system components.

• Direct the procurement, maintenance, and operations field equipment as necessary.
• Provide administrative supervision of staff
• Assure that departments/facilities are inspected for compliance with occupational safety regulations/ standards. Interface with Compliance, Administration or General Counsel on regulatory issues. Manage a comprehensive campus-wide program.
• Create, implement, and maintain safety management systems that involve workplace assessments, reporting, documentation, and communications.
• Develop budget and create systems for effective implementation and monitoring
• Analyze data to monitor and evaluate effectiveness of loss prevention and control programs and activities.
• Maintain an incident and accident investigation program that meets the needs of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and the university
• Develop and implement policies and practices of a culture that supports employee engagement in the workplace.

Salary: $63,837- Commensurate

Education Required

• A Master’s degree in an appropriate field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Experience Required

• Proficiency in computer software applications is required.
• A working knowledge of the Joint Commission Standards regarding safety, fire safety, and emergency management is required.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
• Five to Seven Years of experience in safety management or an appropriate discipline including program administration is required.
• Experience monitoring environmental safety concerns individually or by coordinating the necessary activity is required.

Desirable Qualifications

• Designation as a safety professional by a credible organization.
• Experience in a large hospital/healthcare setting is highly desirable.
• A working knowledge of CMS and NFPA (As relating to health care facilities) is highly desirable.
