Sr. Director, Logistics & CS

Global Food Company

Role Context:

Reporting to the Head of the NA Supply Chain, the Director of Logistics is responsible for developing and implementing distribution and transportation strategies within the NA supply chain and solutions in support of meeting future and current customer needs. This leadership role will manage multiple #PL networks (business to business and business to consumer) to optimize the distribution and warehouse infrastructure as well as a multi-faceted NA transportation network. The position will also be responsible to lead and drive change throughout people, systems (new D365 ERP implementation), and processes to continuously develop innovative supply chain solutions to ensure excellence in cost, quality, and service.


Key accountabilities & deliverables:

This role is responsible for directly managing and developing the logistics and distribution teams, managing all 3PL arrangements as well as the NA transportation network servicing multiple channels of retail, wholesale, and direct.


Other responsibilities include:

  • Provides the analytical tools necessary for decision-making, which includes reporting metric trends to help drive the business.
  • Ensures compliance with international use laws and regulations related to import/export activities
  • Drives continuous improvement culture – responsible for executing a portfolio of distribution and transportation logistics improvement projects to optimize the distribution network, maximizing service levels while lowering total delivery costs.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory integrity, process controls, procedures, and systems throughout the NA distribution network.
  • Oversight and directs work of the transportation management team – managing private fleet, pool distributors, consolidation programs, and carried relationships (FTL, LTL, and express)
  • Partners with procurement management for ender management of inbound freight to ensure overall customer service levels, and supply of materials in a timely manner while minimizing total costs.
  • Mentors, develops, and evaluates the performance of direct staff. A key driver for performance management and an advocate of company culture.


Background:

• Experience in managing 3PL distribution centers

• Strong business acumen; understanding of consumption, inventory and production data and critical casual inputs

• In-depth knowledge of key supply chain/logistics processes and current best practices

• Ability to quickly establish credibility and navigate across matrix organization while engaging others to ensure the most effective and efficient logistics solutions for the varied business units

• Demonstrated experience in creating/upgrading the logistics function

in an organization of similar size and scope

• Ability to create internal and external relationships

• Ability to work in a culturally diverse organization

• Demonstrated leadership skills – the ability to lead people/organizations through change.

• Ability to drive change and ensure compliance at the highest levels across the warehouse, inventory, and transportation management disciplines.

• Exceptional financial/business literacy and analytical skills

• Experience with Microsoft D365 (new ERP system)including good working knowledge of general WMS and other like tools.

• Experience and ability to learn TMS systems

• Project management skills – the ability to actively participate in and lead cross-functional project teams (internal) and to manage across supplier teams (external) for projects requiring multiple outside suppliers.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, operations, or related field.

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in logistics management, inventory management or operations management.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience managing a team.

• Previous experience working within a Consumer Packaged Goods (preferably food) environment

• Master’s Degree or MBA

• Minimum of 15 years of experience in logistics management, inventory management or operations management.

• 8 years of experience managing a team

• Previous experience working within a Consumer-Packaged Goods (preferably food) environment
