Job Title: Network Support Analyst 1-5
Salary Range: Level 1: Step 1: $57,100 Step 7: $81,572
Level 2: Step 1: $62,812 Step 7: $89,731

Level 4: Step 1 $76.001 Step 7: $108,573
Level 5: Step 1 $86,703 Step 7: $123,862
Department: Office of IT Infrastructure & Operations
Supervisor: Lead Network Operations • Data Network Ops
Location: Queens New York, or other locations as required
Hours of Work: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM (8 work hours/day) or various as required.
Summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical support for all aspects of connectivity between endpoints utilizing MTA’s integrated LAN/WAN network environment.
Responsibilities:
Level 1
- Participate in the evaluation of new connectivity products and technologies.
- Ensure all required system documentation and record keeping requirements associated with maintaining and controlling IT assets are completed accurately, timely and in accordance with MTA policies and procedures and department requirements.
- Work with other IT technical resources to support all network related technical problems and services.
- Install, configure and troubleshoot network and SAN solutions supporting critical business functions and customer facing services.
- Support satellite locations in a timely and effective manner during the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all network related technologies.
Level 2
All responsibilities of Level 1 plus the following:
- Guide less senior technicians and staff in the performance of their tasks.
- Evaluate connectivity requests and requirements and recommend effective technological solutions.
Level 3
All responsibilities of Levels 1-2 plus the following:
- Design and engineer solutions and standards to be applied within the section.
Level 4
All responsibilities of Levels 1-3 plus the following:
- Contribute to the planning and coordination of tasks associated with network technology related projects.
Level 5
All responsibilities of Levels 1-4 plus the following:
- Lead the planning and coordination of tasks and activities in support of network related projects and initiatives.
- Direct the design and engineering of solutions for projects to be implemented within the section.
- Python Programing
- Install and oversee the configuration and troubleshooting of complex network and SAN solutions supporting critical business functions and customer facing services.

Level 1
- Ability to learn and apply new technology.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Strong people skills.
- Strong oral and written communications skills.
- Must be able to move and lift up to 25 lbs. of equipment such as switches, routers, UPS, laptops, firewalls, etc.
- Ability to troubleshoot and support technical issues both remotely and on-site using standard MTA tools and techniques.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams, technical manuals and documentation such that supported equipment and software can be maintained with minimal training.
- Basic knowledge and familiarity with configuring, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting network connectivity equipment including but not limited to switches, routers and wireless equipment.
- Basic working knowledge of LAN/WAN/SAN network protocols.
Level 2
Same as Level 1 with the following additional qualifications:
- Ability to provide technical solutions to meet business unit requirements.
- Ability to provide technical direction to less senior staff members.
Level 3
Same as Level 2 with the following additional qualifications:
- Ability to design and engineer complex solutions incorporating standards and industry best practice to enhance and expand the functionality of the Corporate Data Network incorporating fault tolerance, resiliency and scalability.
- Strong knowledge and familiarity with configuring, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network connectivity equipment including but not limited to switches, routers and wireless equipment.
- Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN/SAN network protocols and use of protocol analysis tools for data packet inspection.
- Ability to provide in-depth technical direction to less senior staff members.
Level 4
Same as Level 3 with the following additional qualifications:
- Ability to plan activities and provide advanced technical direction to less senior staff members.
- Advanced knowledge of LAN/WAN/SAN network protocols and use of protocol analysis tools for data packet inspection.
- Ability to formulate a plan, define tasks, and coordinate activity required to successfully execute network technology related projects.
- Advanced knowledge and familiarity with configuring, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting network connectivity equipment including but not limited to switches, routers and wireless equipment.
Level 5
Same as Level 4 with the following additional qualifications:
- Proven experience working with senior level staff contributing to both short and long term technology related planning strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to direct the design and engineering complex solutions incorporating standards and industry best practice to enhance and expand the functionality of the Corporate Data Network incorporating fault tolerance, resiliency and scalability.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical solutions to meet business unit requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, present and apply complex technology solutions to solve critical business requirements effectively and efficiently.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Must demonstrate excellent knowledge and familiarity with configuring, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting network connectivity equipment including but not limited to switches, routers and wireless equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and support technical issues both remotely and on-site using standard MTA tools and techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to read and understand schematic diagrams, technical manuals and documentation such that supported equipment and software can be maintained with minimal training.
- Demonstrated ability to lead formulation of a plan, defining tasks and coordinating activity, required to successfully execute network technology related projects.

- Must possess a basic knowledge, familiarity and experience with maintaining and supporting a complex network environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline; or a minimum of 1 years’ experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.
Level 2
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 5 years’ experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.
- Must possess a minimum of 3 years’ experience maintaining and supporting a complex network environment.
Level 3
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 7 years’ experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.
- Must possess a minimum of 5 years of experience maintaining and supporting a complex network environment.
Level 4
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 10 years’ experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.
- Must possess a minimum of 8 years of experience maintaining and supporting a complex network environment.
Level 5
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline; or a minimum of 12 years’ experience installing, maintaining and supporting network technologies.
- Must possess a minimum of 10 years of experience maintaining and supporting a complex network environment.
This is a resume based position in the collective bargaining unit represented by the Transportation Communications Union (TCU) and will be governed by the terms of the associated TCU collective bargaining agreement for IT employees. As such, candidates selected for this position will be represented by TCU and be on MTA payroll. In addition, candidates selected may be required to work at any MTA Agency location.
