Job Description

This position is Remote. Candidates will be considered based on their qualifications and the candidate’s ability to work from an approved work location. Although the location is flexible, AEP does not have a presence in all states and localities. The following locations are NOT currently approved for this position: AK, CO, CT, DE, HI, IA, ID, KS, MA, ME, MS,MT, ND, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, RI, SD, UT, VT, WY,MT, US Territories, or international work locations. AEP will consider qualified candidates who are willing to relocate to an approved work location, at the candidate’s expense, provided the relocation can be completed within a timeframe that meets AEP’s staffing needs.

As the manager of Network Operations, you will be accountable for leading the Network Operations for the AEP Enterprise Core Backbone, Corporate, Generation, Transmission including substations, Distribution, as well as the Data Center networks.
You will lead a team of skilled professionals who provide advanced level support of AEP’s enterprise IP network including routers, switches, wireless, and other network technologies. The team participates in on-call support covering network operations 24x7x365. This team also provides installation and maintenance of network hardware and participates in the maintenance and creation of standards for these devices in collaboration with Network Engineering.
You will be responsible ensuring environments are built with design thinking principles that focuses on resiliency, security, costs, non-functional requirements and ease of ongoing management that transform and grow with AEP. In this role you will drive innovation and new technologies leveraging industry trends and best practices. You report to the Director, Network Operations and Support and will lead a high-performing team that is focused on the customer experience. In addition, you will effectively collaborate with your peer groups, strategic partners, and engineering teams to lead AEP in best practices with the objective to create stable, standardized, networks that are focused on service oriented delivery and security.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS are listed below:
  • Lead a collective team of employees and strategic partner resources in AEP’s network operations to achieve operational excellence across the enterprise networks including corporate, distribution, transmission, and generation
  • Represent the Network Operations team in the ITSM TOR (technology operations review), CAB (Change Advisory Board), as well as the daily change review sessions.
  • Implement industry best practices for ITIL and oversee network ITSM change management ensuring the highest level of due diligence is performed on change control before approving associated changes
  • Deliver industry best network solutions that enhance process consistency and productivity leveraging process standardization and automation
  • Support the network deployment, lifecycle, maintenance, and incident response for all routing and switching, and wireless hardware in the AEP enterprise network
  • Support network operations 24x7 including on call and major incidents
  • Manage key operational and project metrics in support of KPI / SLA objectives in achieving business financial and delivery objectives

Minimum Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, business, or related technical field is required. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
Experience: In addition to any experience required above, 8 or more years of technology experience; 4-6 years of direct supervision experience preferred.
Physical demand level is Sedentary
Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
  • 3+ years Network Operations leadership (preferred) or Network Engineering (secondary)
  • 3+ years Automation development and integration experience in network environments
  • 2+ years experience providing 24x7 support for Network technologies
  • 3+ years strategic sourcing oversight and leadership including offshore teams
  • Demonstrated success in being an advocate for exceptional lead culture
  • 3+ years Leading process standardization & ITIL compliance
Licenses/Certifications
  • ITIL Certifications preferred Strong communications skills both verbal and written
  • Any general or vendor specific network certifications
  • Cisco Network Certifications (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, etc.)
