RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS:
Mine Planning & Reconciliation
Responsible to ensure the mining teams prepare appropriate, accurate, and practical mine plans (short-term, mid-term, and life of mine) consistent with the Lhoist Standards and programs. This includes:
  • Tracking the performance of the mining teams (with regards to the published mine plans), rapidly and effectively communicating issues upwards, and providing leadership in the resolution of the issues.
  • Coordinate training and support to the mining teams and sites in the rollout and use of the various Lhoist standards, tools, and programs.
Management of Planning Engineering Team / Mining Engineering
Direct supervision of the regional mining engineers:
  • Support the development of the mining technical professionals within the LNA organization to provide stability for future operations, as well as the development of “bench strength” for succession planning.
  • Ensure regional engineers provide on-site support, technical expertise, or other assistance as requested by the sites.
Communication
Must be effective at communicating technical issues to a large audience including those outside of the G&M Organization.
  • Coordinate routine review meetings, technical visits, audits, and work sessions at the various quarries and mines.
  • Ensure routine and effective communication between the mine planning, geology, and operational teams.
Reporting / Development of Standards
  • Assist with the development/implementation/updating of Lhoist standards for the mine planning functions.
  • Provide input for the biannual Land & Deposit review.
  • Provide input for weekly and monthly reports for the mine planning group.
  • Coordinate/organize various meetings within the mining community of Lhoist (Level 1 / Level 2 / project reviews / etc.)
  • Ensure frequent reviews and reconciliations of mine plans and tracking of quarry Key Performance Indicators along with action plans developed.
Training, knowledge transfer, and customer support
  • Support the continuous improvement process
  • Capture past and present learning and distribute it throughout the mining teams and organization, where applicable
Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Must be the “champion” of the mine planning process, the LNA mining team concept, and the Lhoist long-term mining and reserve philosophy.
  • Strong computer skills using various general and specialized technical software packages
  • Can prioritize and manage competing deadlines and responds with a strong sense of urgency in meeting customer needs.
  • Positive and proactive attitude with an ability to address issues and implement solutions

Physical Demands include, but are not limited to:
  • Tolerate working outside in severe weather conditions as well as exposure to industrial high temperatures, noise, and dust.
  • Will be working in both an office environment and in a mining process environment.
  • Must be physically capable of accessing all plant locations.
  • Access all areas within a site which could include heights of 120 feet, confined spaces, climbing ladders or stairs, and access tunnels.
  • Must be physically able to perform the work assigned.
  • The employee will be required to perform the following actions (from time to time): Standing, walking, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, talking, seeing, hearing and sitting.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • The employee will be exposed to the following working conditions: Extreme Heat and Cold, Noise, Walking on Uneven Surfaces, Vibration, Oils, and Atmospheric Conditions such as Dust, Fumes, and Metallic Particles.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% at times or as directed by leadership

Required Experience: A minimum of 8 -12 years of previous leader, supervisor, or Sr. Mine Engineer, regional or experience in a mining/mineral processing environment is required.
Preferred Experience: Previous Supervisor or Manager, technical mining role in a surface or underground mining operation with a minimum of 10 years of experience
Required Education: Bachelor of Science degree in mining or geology or equivalent work experience in the field is desired.
Preferred Education: Professional Engineer Certification. Master’s degree in a related field.
