Position Summary
The Metallurgical Engineer is responsible for providing support for the local management team with metallurgical expertise, data analysis and problem-solving. This role will drive improvement projects as well as train and coach operators of key metallurgical processes to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures. They will work closely with process engineers to reduce variations in key input and output process variables to improve quality performance. This position reports to the Quality Manager and is an onsite position based at our manufacturing location in El, Cajon.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead group of 3 lab technicians and review and approve laboratory results.
- Develop and drive process improvement related to technical, quality, and operating procedures.
- Release hardware for production utilizing processes that are designed to meet or exceed customer technical (metallurgical and quality) requirements as specified on purchase orders, blueprints, specifications, or other related documents.
- Develop, modify, improve, and troubleshoot the processes associated with the production of products in all stages of the production process.
- Work with Quality and Engineering teams on new and revised technical (material, process, quality, etc.) specifications and cost control reduction projects to achieve targets.
- Work with customer technical teams to resolve issues when they arise.
- Perform various Metallurgy Department projects including planning, organizing data collection, and presentation from raw material procurement to finished good shipment.
- Primary technical contact for customers related to technical, metallurgical, and related aspects of specifications and other documents.
Experience and Education Required
- At least three to five years of process or product engineering experience related to super alloys, titanium and/or specialty/stainless steels or other related industries.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field, from an accredited institution.
- Strong root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of wrought processing (i.e., conventional melting, forging, rolling, conditioning, or heat treatment.
