Crash Sensing & Biomechanics Engineer

What To Expect
Design and develop crash & pedestrian protection sensing strategy to further enhance overall vehicle safety scope beyond regulatory and consumer testing.
What You’ll Do

• Assist in aggregate studies of impacts based on risk of injury
• Determine optimum sensor types and locations to facilitate legal requirements and real world restraint system performance
• Review CAE simulations of field data using (Matlab, LS-pre post and/or Meta-post)
• Manage Tier 1 suppliers for engineering development & deliverable timing
• Design and develop impact detection systems for pedestrian and occupant protection
• Work closely with CAE and restraint system design teams to determine and optimize restraint system deployment characteristics, design the inputs and logic required to achieve performance targets
• Develop estimates of risk from vehicle dynamics and occupant configurations (i.e. accelerations, rotation rates, seat belt wearing state etc.)
• Assist in co-ordination and oversight of test execution for correlation, development, validation for calibration purposes
• Design restraint system studies to determine the likely injury risks and optimum restraint systems for real world situations derived from fleet data
• Design and complete studies of field data to assess restraint system performance
• Analysis of post-test data using DIAdem/MATLAB - reviewing results against expectations and predictions

What You’ll Bring

• Experience with field data analysis for vehicle crashes
• The ability to articulate and present technical issues to audiences of either spectrum regarding familiarity on crash safety and potential occupant injury.
• Excellent organization skills and self-motivation.
• Test data analysis tools e.g. (DIAdem, Hyperworks, Matlab, LS-pre post and/or Meta-post, Python)
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Biomechanical Engineering
• Hands-on experience with vehicle crash tests, sled tests and anthropomorphic test devices
• Previous knowledge of automotive crashworthiness legislation and attributes of vehicle safety and crashworthiness is preferred
• Good understanding and experience of vehicle structure development for crashworthiness
• Engineering fundamentals in problem solving

Expected Compensation
$80,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
