NS BlueScope - Coated Products North America (Coated Products) is a joint venture between Nippon Steel and BlueScope Steel. The Coated Product business operates in the United States, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia, with its headquarters based in Singapore. ASC Profiles LLC and Steelscape LLC are part of the NS BlueScope Coated Products business in the United States and is an industry leader on the forefront of offering innovative steel product solutions. The Engineer performs duties requiring the application of professional engineering knowledge, specifically relating to ASC Profiles’ products and their application in construction, including the development of new products and the enhancement of existing products to meet ASC Profiles’ strategic and business plans. This position also develops and updates various documentation (specification sheets, accessory drawings, literature). This is a collaborative role that provides technical support to Sales and Marketing, Production, Technical teams, as well as external customers and suppliers. The Engineer conducts research of market conditions, manages projects, and performs engineering analysis and creation of technical documents. Professionally represents the company through industry groups and in all dealings with engineers, architects, owners, and customers.

• Support Sales team by occasionally providing technical guidance and support to external engineers, architects, specification writers, owners/developers, and end users of ASC Profiles’ products as needed. Research inquiries and provides guidance in accordance with Company standards, capabilities, liability exposure, and industry standards.
• Participates in product testing and analysis, including diaphragm sheer, wind uplift, web-crippling, air and water infiltration, etc. Prepares proper documentation of the lab experiments and analysis.
• Configures products, including creating and/or modifying existing designs, utilizing 3D CAD (Autodesk Inventor) and 2D CAD (AutoCad); prepares drawings and designs system specifications.
• Designs and develops new products in alignment with business strategies and building standards. Performs engineering design and analysis of cold-formed steel building products, including developing product performance specifications, creating and updating application data sheets, and maintaining other relevant documentation. Monitors product development for compliance with current building standards (IBC, AISI, FM, UL, IAPMO-UES, etc.).
• Collaborates with cross functional product innovation team to meet the functional and performance requirements; works closely within the engineering team, marketing, manufacturing and sales departments on the research, design and implementation of products. Prepares reports and correspondence. Provides support to company’s technical literature.

Qualifications
Minimum:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Architectural, or Structural Engineering.
• Good understanding of engineering concepts, especially Seismic Analysis, Structural Analysis, Engineering Statics, Structural Dynamic analysis, Basics of Cold-Form Steel Engineering Design, and how they relate to light gauge steel products.
• 3+ years of experience in Civil Engineering, building construction and/or building products industry.

Preferred:

• Knowledge in cold-form steel design and standards (AISI S100 Cold Form Steel Design Manual, Steel Deck Institute Manual, etc.).
• 3+ years of experience in Civil Engineering, building construction and/or building products industry.
• Competent knowledge of company product and design procedures.
• 3 years in design of cold-formed steel building components for commercial, institutional, educational, hospital, residential, agricultural or similar applications.
• (CA) P.E. License.

Skills & Competencies:

• Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
• Works safe daily and supports CPNA safety culture.
• Excellent oral communication skills, including presentations, and the ability to communicate technical information, design examples, and applications in an effective manner
• Hands-on, technical and analytical competence.
• Demonstrated experience with Microsoft applications, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and especially Excel
• Effective written communication, and report writing skills.
• CAD Software (Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD) and PC skills. Ability to learn and use Cold-Form Steel related engineering software.
• Project management from conceptualization to completion and implementation, including all the required interdepartmental collaboration.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, submittals, technical and contract documents
• Detail-oriented, with the ability to plan, organize and multi-task in order to meet deadlines.

Work Environment:

• Standard office environment
• Some lab/testing performed approximately 10% of time in warehouse environment, PPE, up to 50 pound lifting, and some use of hand tools.
• Use of computer, keyboard, mouse, office equipment
