Opportunity: The above client is looking for a Propulsion Engineer who will be responsible for the mechanical design of the propulsion systems and components for development and testing.

Requirements: You have 4+ years of experience working on designing, building, testing and troubleshooting hardware from cradle to grave.

Core responsibilities

• Develop tools and perform analysis on the propulsion subsystem, including mechanical analysis of structural assemblies, optimization of component design for performance and cost, propellant management, plume analyses, thruster alignments, and on-orbit performance assessment.
• Analyze data from hardware testing, and use results to iterate designs and make critical decisions on hardware performance.
• Lead the hardware development process from concept to prototype, and from prototype to development and production for flight hardware.
• Manage system level design, analysis and trade studies of the electric propulsion systems

Required

• Knowledge of spacecraft propulsion systems and/or vacuum hardware requirements.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics or a related field.
• Availability to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
• Demonstrable ability to design, build, and test hardware from scratch, including troubleshooting and iterating designs based on feedback.
• 4+ years of relevant experience; a Master's degree may substitute for 2 years of experience.
• Experience with 3D modeling and creating manufacturing drawings.
• Proficient in mechanical design principles, materials, thermodynamics, and fluids.

Ideal candidate

• Professional experience with Siemens NX (Unigraphics), ANSYS, or COMSOL.
• Experience with propulsion systems design, analysis, test, and/or manufacturing.
• Familiarity with machining, additive manufacturing, welding, forming, tube bending, and structural assembly.
• Experience with Python, MATLAB, C/C++.
• Proficiency in GD&T.
• Knowledge of relevant government and industry standards, such as AIAA-S-080, AIAA-S-081B, SMC-S-025.
