Proposed Schedule: 40 hours a week. Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm


Note: This position is remote but must live within driving distance to the Administrative Building in Queensbury, NY


Hudson Headwaters Health Network requires a pre-employment physical that requires proof of vaccinations to include the COVID-19 vaccine,* unless there is a qualified medical exemption


Position Summary


Under the direction of the Director of Shared Services and the Shared Services Leader, the Medical Records Specialist must at all times safeguard and protect the patient’s rights to privacy by ensuring that only authorized individuals have access to the patient’s medical information and that all received, and release of information are in compliance with the request, authorization, company policy, NYS Privacy Laws and HIPAA statutes.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Monitors medical records for compliance with legal requirements including HIPAA, NYS Department of Health & FQHC
  • Coordinates Medicare Risk Adjustments, HEDIS and other external reviews
  • Serves as internal consultant on health information management issues including, release of information, confidentiality, information security, information storage and retrieval and record retention as well as authorship and authentication of health record documentation
  • Safeguard and protect the patient’s privacy by verifying the requestor type and release requirements in accordance with HIPAA and NYS guidelines and HHHN policy
  • Works with Director of Shared Services and Shared Services Leader to develop and implement policies and procedures relating to the management, retention, release and storage of medical records
  • Assisting providers, staff, and patients by processing forms, medical records, and documentation


Qualifications:
  • Must be able to work independently to meet required deadlines and also work as a team member
  • Proven ability to be accurate, methodical and detail orientated
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and NYS regulations, medical terminology and release of information.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required, Associates preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certified Registered Health Information Technician or Administrator (RHIT or RHIA) preferred but not required
