Job Description
Position Summary


Girl Be Heard seeks a Marketing Communications Associate to join our team. Our Communications Associate will be responsible for internal and external communications, social media, and program support in the organization and will work with an incredibly talented team of organizers and advocates for gender, racial, and economic justice. This role is a hybrid position based in DUMBO, Brooklyn in New York City.


The Communications Associate will serve as a core member of our Communications team and possess generalist level Marketing and Communications knowledge. The Associate will work closely with the Marketing and Communications Manager. With their guidance, the communications Associate is responsible for supporting the organization's overall communications goals, strategy, and various programs for girls, young women, and non-binary youth.


Status: Full-time, hourly position


Remote Eligibility: Hybrid position based in New York City


Compensation: $20.00 -22.00/hour or $42,000 - $46,000 annually


Responsibilities


Internal communications support:


  • Ensure internal communications messages are consistent across all mediums and for different departments of the organization
  • Plan, edit, and write content for a variety of internal communications mediums, such as Constant Contact
  • Establish an internal communications strategy in conjunction with Directors, Marketing and Communications Manager, Program Managers, and other staff
  • Ensure internal communication messages are consistent with external communication messages
  • Organize data, content, and documents on Google Drive for internal use
  • Use social media to communicate with staff and participants
  • Plan, edit and write our bi-weekly staff newsletter
  • Respond to feedback from staff and adjust communications content accordingly
  • Ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to employees and stakeholders through various channels


External Communications Support


  • Respond to feedback from staff and adjust communications content accordingly
  • With review by Marketing and Communications Manager, design and distribute all mass email communications via our newsletters and updates sent through SendInBlue and Constant Contact to ensure organizational initiatives and projects are successfully communicated to the public.
  • Design, plan, edit, and write content for social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Tik Tok, and LinkedIn using Notion.
  • Track and document social media analytics to in order to improve the performance of social media and marketing campaigns.
  • Coordinate efforts to cultivate and manage relationships with content creators, media partners, and contractors
  • With guidance from senior staff, serve as point-of-contact for press including writing releases, coordinating press events, pitching stories, and responding to press inquiries, requests for interviews, and filming
  • Establish an external communications strategy in conjunction with Directors, Communications and Marketing Manager, Program Managers, and other staff to effectively engage with a larger, broader and more culturally diverse audience.


Program Support


  • Support online and in-person events by participating in event planning, carrying out marketing/communications plans, and providing day-of event support
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Taking photographs and videos for internal purposes and social media purposes at numerous in-person events throughout the year
  • Downloading, editing, and uploading event recordings to YouTube or online storage space for internal use
  • Attend rehearsals and maintain an engaging presence for promotional collateral
  • Host or provide technical support during online program sessions held via a video and audio conferencing platform such as Zoom and then uploading the recordings on YouTube.

  • Demonstrated success in helping to market to and engage culturally diverse audiences and partners
  • A keen eye for detail and an understanding of the importance of meeting deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent years of experience) required, preferably in a related field.
  • Superior organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • 3+ years of progressive experience working in a community organization or gender/social/racial justice non-profit
  • Experience coordinating marketing/communications projects, such as communications plans
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A dedicated work ethic, including a desire to be a hands-on team member
  • Ability to continually develop skills related to use of rapidly changing technology and communications best practices.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Canva, and video editing tools like CapCut required. Familiarity with other software, such as Adobe Creative Suite, a plus
  • Demonstrated commitment to gender, racial, social and economic justice
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Creative skills: You need the creative ability to devise communication strategies
