THE POSITION:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of part-time manual labor tasks in the maintenance of City parks, parkways, buildings, sidewalks, streets, and other City property and facilities; operates trucks and other motorized vehicles; and does related work as required.

This is a part-time, at-will, non-benefited position. Hours may range from 15-29 hours per week. This position will be continuous until filled.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions

• Performs watering, mowing, trimming, edging, and weeding.
• Assists with the maintenance and preparation of playing fields.
• Cleans and maintains restrooms; stocks rest rooms with necessary supplies; repairs toilets, urinals and faucets.
• Plants, trims, and cultivates bushes, trees, flowers and shrubs; eradicates weeds.
• Rakes leaves, sweeps surfaces, and uses blowers to clear debris from walkways, fields, paths, and other facilities; picks up and removes trash.
• Performs custodial functions such as vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, and cleaning of facilities and replenishment of supplies.
• Operates hand and power tools and equipment and follows safety procedures.
• Assists in the set-up and removal of equipment needed for special events.
• Assists with maintenance painting and light carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical duties.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is:

• Education: Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Experience: Six (6) months of experience in the maintenance, construction, and repair of parks, medians, streets, landscaping, and/or facilities is desirable.

Licenses, Certifications, And Special Requirements

• Possession of a valid California class C driver's license with a satisfactory driving record during the course of employment.

Knowledge Of

Basic methods, techniques and tools used in the cleaning and maintenance of public facilities; care and maintenance of tools and equipment; proper set-ups and use of tools, equipment, and materials for different assignments.

Ability To

Understand and follow health and safety codes and regulations; follow preventative maintenance standards and adhere with safety procedures and requirements; understand and follow oral and written directions; set up, adjust, and operate equipment; communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and management.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The position primarily works in field settings. The employee must have the ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee is expected to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, climb, and crawl, depending upon work tasks, and to lift up to 50 pounds given materials moved and tools used. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this class, the employee must be able to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; interpret policies and procedures; use math and mathematical reasoning; learn and apply new information or new skills; and interact with City staff, management, contractors, vendors, and public.

Work Environment

The employee constantly works outdoors and is subject to variable weather conditions and traffic, heat, dust, moisture and wetness as well as mechanical and electrical hazards, and applied chemicals. The employee is subject to loud construction noise in particular areas such as power tools, compressors, chippers, and large-scale motorized equipment.

Retirement - California Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) PST Deferred Compensation Plan. Contribution to this account is 7.5% per pay period, the City pays 3.75% and the employee pays 3.75% deducted from salary. Additionally, e?????mployee pays 1.45% ???????towards Medicare per paycheck.

Part-Time Sick Leave -24 hours of sick leave per fiscal year with a banked max of 48 hours.
