Job Description
What You'll Do

Are you interested in partnering with Cisco’s businesses to transform our company? Cisco’s People & Communities (P&C) team is inspiring today's talent for tomorrow's Cisco. As a “Deal Lead” (People Consultant) you’ll serve as the P&C functional lead on dynamic acquisition project teams. You’ll lead the People activities for acquisitions in early discovery and negotiations with senior (‘key”) executives, due diligence, and other People aspects for deal signing & closing, as well as consulting on integration. You will help implement People strategies that accelerate the transformation of Cisco's talent, leadership, culture, and organization.

Who You'll Work With

Come join our P&C M&A team and partner with Cisco’s People & Communities ecosystem, Corporate Development, Legal, Tax, Stock Administration, business leaders, acquired company leaders, and the cross-functional acquisition integration teams from Engineering, CX, Sales, Supply Chain, and support functions who lead the acquisitions innovation engine for Cisco. M&A is one of the most cross-functional spaces in the company with the opportunity, over time and through our many deals, to touch every aspect of Cisco’s business. As part of the M&A team, we are a strategic growth vehicle for Cisco, accelerating entry into new markets and adding teams with unique talents. You’ll be part of a hard-working, cross-functional team of experienced, dedicated M&A experts. We have a passion for helping make acquired leaders & teams successful inside of Cisco.

Who You Are

Are you someone who…
  • Has the ability to link business strategy to organization design principles and integration approaches
  • Influences executives and quickly bring decisions to closure with multiple partners who have strong and varying views
  • Remains the calm, cool, collected person in the midst of a storm
  • Is skilled in negotiating in a variety of settings, not only with executives but also all other levels within an organization
  • Is comfortable with uncomfortable conversations with executives (both internal and external to Cisco) while being a steward for both Cisco and the well-being of all parties
  • Makes connections between disparate groups to ensure all hands are aligned to the same outcome
  • Geeks out a bit on how legal documents help support the strategic goals of an acquisition – including details of employment contracts and merger agreement documents
  • Conveys confidence and strong leadership presence – whether live or via Webex
  • Communicates effectively: both live and in writing - developing/delivering team presentations and writing/editing employee communications
  • Thrives in a constantly evolving environment
  • Understands the impact of business decisions on the motivation, morale, and retention of employees
  • Flexes between big picture/strategy and detailed execution
  • Establishes rapport and trust quickly with all levels, including executives, and successfully transition those relationships quickly at the appropriate inflection point
  • Considers creative solutions to new and challenging situations
Our Minimum Requirements for this Role
  • Ability to travel on short notice as there may be unpredictable travel requirements at times, depending on deal locations and including international travel at times. Normal travel expectation is 10%.
  • High customer service orientation, consistently seeking creative solutions
  • Ability to work effectively at lightning speed
  • Available at off hours during deal execution. When a deal is in the crunch period, it requires all relevant teams to be available to address needs timely.
  • Experience leading acquisitions of all shapes and sizes including large global acquisitions with multi-billion dollar purchase prices and thousands of acquired employees
  • Experience in handling a variety of issues in a climate of change
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize, and decide – to learn a large amount of new information quickly, take in alternatives, and make sound decisions
  • 8-10+ years’ experience in People & Communities (Human Resources) with progressive experience in client facing roles (in or out of HR)
Preferred
  • Strong program management skills
  • Experience with organization design and workforce planning
  • Basic understanding of human resources functions, processes, and their interdependencies
  • Executive coaching experience
  • Experience working across large matrixed organization structures
  • Understand cross-functional connections with key partners outside of P&C

Why Cisco
#WeAreCisco. We are all unique, but collectively we bring our talents to work as a team, to develop innovative technology and power a more inclusive, digital future for everyone. How do we do it? Well, for starters – with people like you!
Nearly every internet connection around the world touches Cisco. We’re the Internet’s optimists. Our technology makes sure the data traveling at light speed across connections does so securely, yet it’s not what we make but what we make happen which marks us out. We’re helping those who work in the health service to connect with patients and each other; schools, colleges, and universities to teach in even the most challenging of times. We’re helping businesses of all shapes and sizes to connect with their employees and customers in new ways, providing people with access to the digital skills they need and connecting the most remote parts of the world – whether through 5G, or otherwise.
We tackle whatever challenges come our way. We have each other’s backs, we recognize our accomplishments, and we grow together. We celebrate and support one another – from big and small things in life to big career moments. And giving back is in our DNA (we get 10 days off each year to do just that).
We know that powering an inclusive future starts with us. Because without diversity and a dedication to equality, there is no moving forward. Our 30 Inclusive Communities, that bring people together around commonalities or passions, are leading the way. Together we’re committed to learning, listening, caring for our communities, whilst supporting the most vulnerable with a collective effort to make this world a better place either with technology, or through our actions.
So, you have colorful hair? Don’t care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That’s cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us! #WeAreCisco
