Job Title: Logistics Manager
Location: West Georgia Customer Service Center
Reports To: Site Leader
Summary:
The Logistics Manager position is a manager role that will support the operation in various facets. The position will be focused on growth and development in relation to Culture of Zero, Lean, & Customer Service. This position will work with other leaders within the operation to ensure a safe work environment for all team members, while maintaining continuous operational execution and production of quality products that are delivered on time to customers within established cost targets.
The Logistics Manager will focus on Logistics Activities, Warehouse Supervision, Culture of Zero Initiatives, Lean Processes, Shipping Management, Inventory Management, Production Planning, Systems Application and Management, Customer Service Support, and Training Liaison.
Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety Management:
- Develop, implement, and monitor programs to ensure the safety of all personnel, equipment, and property.
- Drive Southwire Culture of Zero by demonstrating Safe and Quality conscious work habits.
- Ensure policies and processes are deployed uniformly throughout all shifts.
- Work with the Safety Specialist to ensure that VPP initiatives and programs are adequately supported.
- Monitor the cleanliness and working condition of all work areas, equipment and oversee adjustments and/or repairs, as necessary.
- Work with Site Leadership to determine labor needs and staffing levels to achieve budget.
- Drives team member engagement within the warehouse through various events, effective communication, and leadership.
- Perform regular training needs assessments to identify needed training for all team members.
- Develop a highly motivated and committed workforce with emphasis on the development of skills needed to accomplish safety, quality, on-time delivery, and product cost goals.
- Provide leadership, guidance and direction to Supervisors, Specialists and Leads.
- Ability to work flexible hours and shifts.
- Highlight critical issues in the operation and present action plans to Site Leadership.
- Coordinates with other managers and guarantees workflow with other departments.
- Must be flexible and willing to accept responsibilities that are outside the traditional scope.
- Be familiar with ISO and Wire & Cable Quality Systems procedures and work instructions.
- Actively participates in the Southwire DHP process and be capable of sharing information related to pertinent metrics as needed.
- Lead productivity improvement teams and projects to eliminate losses and improve distribution operations.
- Work with Inventory Specialist to ensure that cycle counting goals are being met each month.
- Any other activities as directed by Site Leadership.
- Direct and oversee the storage and material handling of products in the facility.
- Apply sound communication and motivational techniques in leading, supervising, coaching, and disciplining team members.
Operational Excellence:
- Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to heat/cold conditions and levels of noise, and potential exposure to various industrial liquids, oils, gases, etc.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with SAP is a plus.
- Statistical and analytical problem solving; database management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix organization and positively influence strategies and outcomes.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities along with outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills required.
- Must have a clear understanding of OPS, the DHP principles and applications.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related business degree is preferred.
- A broad range of management skills is required with particular emphasis on leadership, supervision, motivation, communication, and planning.
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Minimum of 3+ years of supervisory and/or distribution management experience.
- Broad knowledge of warehouse operations and technology is necessary.
- This position is highly active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing for potentially extended periods of time. The team member must frequently lift and/or move items 50 pounds or less.
- Decision Quality: Makes sound decisions, even in the absence of complete information; Relies on a mixture of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment when making decisions; Considers all relevant factors and uses appropriate decision-making criteria and principles; Recognizes when a quick 80% solution will suffice.
