Posting Summary


Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Lead Medical Services Assistant for the Medicine Clinic at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.


The primary purpose of the Lead Medical Services Assistant is to serve as a core member of the clinical team. This position is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the daily clinical workflow as directed by the assistant nurse manager to support effective and efficient clinical operations.


Among the key duties of this position are the following:


  • Obtains pre-certification and/or prior authorization from insurance companies for patient management as assigned.
  • Oversees at least one medical assistant as directed by the assistant nurse manager.
  • Implements patient experience techniques in all patient interactions, in-person, telephone and telehealth visits.
  • Advises patients regarding preparation of necessary forms; counsels patients regarding paperwork requirements.
  • Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or provider of patient’s condition and Reactions to drugs, treatment and significant incidents.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience


  • Meets the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners definition of a “Certified Medical Assistant” as outlined in NJAC 13:356.4(a)2.
  • At least one (1) year of relevant experience in a medical office setting required. Knowledge of medical terminology is required.


Certifications/Licenses


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated competency in Point of Care Testing.
  • Demonstrated competency in basic word processing and computer skills.
  • The ability to function in a team environment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of medical interpreter training course.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
