Schedule: Monday-Friday / 7:00 am-3:30 pm or 4 - 10-hour days (TBD)

Employees at the Manatee County Water Laboratory provide reliable, safe drinking water to Manatee County, Sarasota County, and the cities served. Quality control laboratory staff are responsible for the collection and analysis of various water samples from every step in the treatment process. They use complex scientific instrumentation and standardized methods and procedures to monitor water quality to ensure it meets state and federal regulations. The lab is also responsible for algal control activities on Lake Manatee.

As a Water Laboratory Technician, you will collect, evaluate, analyze and interpret scientific and technical data, and prepare reports to document results. The Laboratory Technician collects water samples from surface, ground, drinking, wastewater, reclaimed, etc., that are sourced from wells, distribution systems, storage facilities, and treatment plants, including Lake Manatee Watershed, Lake Manatee Reservoir, and East County Wellfield.

What You Will Do

• Research customer inquiries and perform site visits to investigate, resolve, and communicate results in a timely manner.
• Follow all established safety standards, procedures, best practices, trends, laws affecting area of expertise.
• Calibrate, operate, and maintain equipment including field sampling, analytical, and laboratory equipment.
• Prepare microbiological media and chemical reagents.
• Perform chemical and mathematical calculations in accordance with regulatory agencies (i.e., FDOH, FFDEP, USEPA, etc.).
• Maintain detailed records and reports of work performed and results obtained.

Who You Are

• Basic knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance required to perform job duties.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of current laboratory techniques, practices, and procedures.
• Basic knowledge and understanding of computer applications and software programs required to perform job duties.
• Accurate, detail-oriented, and able to organize work and prioritize tasks, adjust to competing and changing priorities, and meet deadlines.
• Skilled verbal and written communicator, uses professional, interpersonal skills when dealing with customers, co-workers, and management.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Skills

• 1 or more years of experience working in a laboratory setting.
• Bachelor's degree in natural science, chemistry, biology, environmental science, or a closely related field.

Equivalent combinations of education, training and work experience may be considered.

Desired Skills

• Experience with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) highly desired.
• Experience in environmental laboratory setting highly desired.
