Medical Laboratory Technician - GS-0645-07 - Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center - Fort Cavazos, TX

Responsibilities

• As a member of the Pathology team, MLTs perform a variety of immunohematologic tests in support of the hospital’s, Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units, Labor and Delivery, and Operating Rooms.
• Oversee the storage of blood and tissue products in various temperature storage areas.
• Serves as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) within the Transfusion Services section.
• Process blood specimens and products for shipment to reference laboratories and other military medical facilities.
• Assist the shift leader/supervisor in conducting inventories of supplies, and the ordering and restocking of supplies.
• Perform blood testing and result entry for automated and manual blood typing tests, compatibility testing, antibody screens and identifications, phenotyping, antibody absorption and elution testing.

Performs Other Duties As Assigned.

Qualifications

Experience

U.S Citizenship required

Preferred o ne year of experience w ith transfusion related testing, blood and/or tissue storage, or general laboratory experience.

Certification

Must be certified from American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT), or other board or registry deemed comparable by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs or their designee as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
