Instrument Technician (2302015) – Geismar, LA


Where the Chemistry Happens


We are seeking a professional like you to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the operation of production departments plant-wide by maintaining the instrumentation and controls systems in good working order. This position interacts daily with the control system manager and engineers. They will also interact with operations personnel, such as operators, production leaders, operations engineers, and technology team members. This person will be responsible for providing periodic reports to management and will interact with peers. This position will also maintain contact with counterparts in other companies within the BASF Group as well as those in other companies via industry organizations.

Formula for Success



  • Install, wire, calibrate, and repair a wide variety of chemical process instrumentation including those for measurement and control of fluid flow, pressure, temperature, level, pH, density, and position.


  • Excellent troubleshooting skills are essential. Must be able to read P&ID’s, flow diagrams, single line diagrams, loop diagrams, sequence charts, and interlock tables. Must be able to use manufacturers’ technical literature available on-line and communicate regularly with vendors’ technical representatives.


  • Familiarity with DCS, PLCs, and local control systems is also important. Various control parameters include electrical, pneumatic, nuclear, mechanical, hydraulic, and wireless. Awareness of proportional and PID control modes is required. Basic understanding of process analyzers is also a requirement.


  • Perform control loop calibrations, as well as field and bench calibration of process instruments.


  • Perform routine preventive maintenance inspections. Maintain ISO-9001, OSHA-PSM, and TS-16949 compliance documentation and field tagging. Significant activities around maintaining safety instruments systems is also required.
  • Familiarity with both ANSI and metric standard fasteners and fittings, as well as domestic and European equipment is required.


  • Must be able to communicate effectively with production personnel, maintenance personnel, supervision, engineering, and external suppliers.


Basic qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED
Completion of an Industrial Instrumentation trade program or applicable trade school program.
Minimum 5 years of experience in plant instrumentation maintenance
Preferred Qualifications:

ISA certification
Experience with Foxboro and/or DeltaV Control Systems and Triconex Safety Systems.
Experience with SAP computerized maintenance management system.
