The Park District currently has one vacancy located at South County Corp Yard in Castro Valley, CA. The hiring pools established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies and additional vacancies that may occur during the one-year life of the hiring pools.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Under general supervision, maintains and operates District Water Treatment plants. Inspects, services, and repairs Waste Water Pump Stations and Water Treatment Plant electrical and mechanical systems and equipment.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Is excellent at motivating, developing, and directing staff
- Is a problem solver and would enjoy navigating park use issues with multiple stakeholders to develop win-win solutions
- Understands and is comfortable operating a SCADA system.
- Is innovative and efficient in managing skilled trade staff members and providing hands-on support while supervising a team
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Perform administrative tasks, such as, ordering and purchasing supplies, and data entry.
- Compiles data and writes reports to fulfill District and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain preventive maintenance service schedules and inventory records for water treatment plants.
- Services, maintains, and assist in the repair of Waste Water Pumping Station equipment and machinery such as valves, motors, pumps, and control panels.
- Reads and records information from dials, gauges, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems and other instruments.
- Collects representative water samples from specified locations according to schedule.
- Services, maintains, operates and adjusts controls on Water Treatment Plant equipment and machinery such as valves, motors, pumps, filters, chemical feeders, adjusters and clarifiers.
- Samples for and provides routine basic water quality analysis.
- Inspect facilities and equipment for safety compliance.
- Performs general Plant maintenance such as sweeping, cleaning, sanding and painting.
- Respond to emergency service calls outside of normal working hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Prepares standard chemical solutions and keeps plant facilities in a clean orderly condition.
- Works closely with local Park staff to coordinate plant operation with Park needs.
- Assist in servicing, repairing, maintaining, installing, electrical and mechanical systems, equipment, and fixtures, such as motors, pumps, switches, alarms, and electrical pump control equipment.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, and
Experience: A minimum of three years of experience working with electrical and mechanical systems.
- Skill and ability to service and maintain pumps, valves, motors, and other water treatment plant equipment.
- Ability to keep records and write reports.
- Knowledge of and ability to work in compliance with health and safety regulations and procedures.
- Ability to complete continued training in this field of expertise and to obtain additional certification as may be required to meet State of California regulations.
- Knowledge and ability to work in accordance with Cal OSHA.
- Knowledge and skill in basic electrical and mechanical pump systems.
- Skill and ability to operate hand, power tools and equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels, including a culturally diverse general public, with a focus on quality service to internal customers and park users.
- A valid California driver's license is a condition of initial and continued employment in this classification.
- All East Bay Regional Park District employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment
- Depending on work location and assignment, ability to use a respirator in the performance of work. In accordance with CAL OSHA respirator regulations, Title 8, 5144 (c) (g) (l) (A) (l.), incumbents shall not wear facial hair (e.g. beards, long sideburns, etc.) that impedes the effectiveness of the respirator.
- Must pass a Level 1 Background Check which includes: employment history verification, employee reference check, education or certificate verification, Department of Justice fingerprinting, and criminal history review.
- A valid California State Water Treatment Operator (Grade T2) certification, a Water Distribution Operator (Grade D1) certification and a Grade 1 Plant Maintenance Technologist certification are required. Certifications must be obtained within 2 years of appointment and must be maintained on a current basis.
- Must wear a Park District Uniform.
- May be required to work unusual hours, nights, weekends, holidays, and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
AFSCME: East Bay Regional Parks Employees, Local 2428, American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME), AFL-CIO, represents this classification. Wages, hours, and other terms of conditions of employment are covered in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Park District and Local 2428. The probationary period for this classification is nine (9) months.
SALARY RANGE: The starting pay for this position will be at Step A of the salary range.
