PRIMARY FUNCTION: This position is responsible for supporting the Network Infrastructure which consist of the data, networking, and AV equipment.
REPORTS TO: Network Engineer
SALARY SCHEDULE: G-12
WORK DAYS: 250
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education Level: Technical industry certification with two years of work experience as noted below. Preferred: Associate degree in network communications technology
- Experience, Skill, and Certification:
- Highly self-motivated and self-directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
- Proven interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide excellent customer service and to show teamwork skills even in stressful situations.
- Experience with installation of AV equipment
- Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience.
- Knowledge of cabling and wiring systems, design, and installation.
- Experience in network hardware, software, and network connection installation and troubleshooting.
- CompTIA Network+, CCNA certification, or industry data communication certification.
- Ability to operate network component analyzers, scanners, and testers.
Preferred:
- Success with site surveys and site design for the purpose of creating efficient and effective WLAN signal overlap.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and network administration/protocols.
- Skilled at installing/configuring Cisco switches and access points.
- Experience working in a switched and routed environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Monitor and analyze network performance across the organization’s LANs, WANs, and wireless deployments.
- Support development and implementation of networking projects and new technology installations.
- Install access points in designated locations; inspect connectivity and signal strength where required.
- Conduct asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment.
- Installation, mounting, testing, and troubleshooting various types of Interactive Flat panels as well as ceiling mounted projectors.
- Maintain standards and document the WLAN’s architecture, design, and layout, patch panel labeling, and protocols used, as well as configuration.
- Conduct feasibility studies for various upgrade projects, improvements, and other conversions.
- Inspect, maintain, and where necessary replace network cabling, voice/data jacks, and other network-related equipment.
- Collaborate with network analysts and designers to create optimal network design topologies and configurations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of networking contracts and supervise contract-based installations.
- Provide on-call technical support.
- Perform other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.
- Ensure network and IP connectivity of all workstations, application servers, and back-end office infrastructure.
- Conduct site surveys to determine optimal locations for wireless access points; ensure access point signals overlap, with minimal interference.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
- Assist with the installation planning and maintenance of network cabling, including MDF and IDF closets.
- Configure WLANs to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Incumbents will be considered “at will.” Appropriate pay will be determined based on the Classified Hourly Scale, Grade 12 and allowable experience as determined by Human Resources. Position is Non-exempt, 250-days. Rev.03-2023
