Brentwood Information Technology Department
Starting salary for this position is $79,681.53.
Up to 5% salary increase after successful completion of six-month probationary period.
Plus: Transportation Allowance of up to $2000/year to be distributed equally over 26 pay periods annually.
The City of Brentwood is seeking a customer service-minded professional with excellent attention to detail to join its team as a Network Technician.
The City of Brentwood is located in scenic Williamson County with a population of approximately 46,000 residents. Brentwood provides a full level of public services to its citizens, including administrative services; police protection; fire protection; 911 communications; parks and recreation facilities; an outstanding municipal library; community planning and building inspection; public works; engineering; and water and wastewater.
The Information Technology Department delivers comprehensive, cost-effective computing, networking, electronic messaging, and training solutions to benefit the employees and citizens of Brentwood. The department manages assets that are operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
As a Computer and Network Technician, you will support the stable operation of the City’s computer technology environment and ensure proper technology operations. This includes assisting technology administrators with installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing hardware, software, and applications. Reporting to the technology administrators, you will be a part of a supportive team culture that is customer focused and professional.
- Prepare and ensure the accuracy of documentation, and procedures manuals for technology applications.
- Collaborate with technology administrators to maintain servers and desktops.
- Work with technology administrators to maintain optimal network topologies and configurations.
- Coordinate with department-specific software vendors to assist with supporting various applications.

Formal Education & Certification
College diploma with IT-related degree and/or 2+ years equivalent work experience. Microsoft or CompTIA related certification. Network+ and A+ certifications are preferred.
Desired Knowledge & Experience
Experience with one or more areas of:
- Microsoft Office 365 Administration
- Intermediate Networking
- Project management
- Microsoft SQL
- PC operating systems including Windows 10, Windows Server 2016-2022
- Microsoft Office 2021 and Office 365
- VMware
- Microsoft Active Directory
- Motorola radio management
Preferred hands-on hardware troubleshooting experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines which includes a computer, printer, typewriter, facsimile machine, copy machine, calculator, telephone, etc. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. Must be able to stoop, bend and maneuver in small areas. Must be able to exert up to fifty pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to twenty-five pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for sedentary to medium work.
DATA CONCEPTION: Requires the ability to compare and or judge the readily observable functional, technical, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.
INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange administrative information. Includes giving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or assistants.
LANGUAGE ABILITY: Requires the ability to read a variety of technical documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures related to the job of Computer/Network Technician I. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control, and confidence using correct English and a well-modulated voice.
INTELLIGENCE: Requires the ability to learn and understand basic to complex principles and techniques; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to the job of Computer/Network Technician I.
VERBAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to record and deliver information to supervisors, employees and members of the public; to explain procedures and policies; and to follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines and objectives.
NUMERICAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine percentages; determine time and weight; and utilize statistical inference.
FORM/SPATIAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape, visually with office equipment.
MOTOR COORDINATION: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in using automated office equipment.
MANUAL DEXTERITY: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
COLOR DISCRIMINATION: May require the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT: Requires the ability to deal with people (i.e. staff, supervisors, general public, and officials) beyond giving and receiving instructions such as in interpreting departmental policies and procedures. Must be adaptable to performing under moderate stress when confronted with an emergency related to the job of Computer/Network Technician I.
PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to talk and/or hear: (talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words). (Hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear).
