As a UW employee, you have a unique opportunity to change lives on our campuses, in our state and around the world. UW employees offer their boundless energy, creative problem-solving skills and dedication to build stronger minds and a healthier world.
UW faculty and staff also enjoy outstanding benefits, professional growth opportunities and unique resources in an environment noted for diversity, intellectual excitement, artistic pursuits and natural beauty.
The UW Center for Health Sciences Interprofessional Education, Research and Practice (CHSIE) currently has an outstanding opportunity for an Interprofessional Education Program Operations Specialist (.8 - 1.0 FTE). This is a dynamic, change-oriented position with a focus on transforming health professions education and health care delivery to better meet the needs of patients, families, and communities. Working collaboratively with the Director of Interprofessional Education and an interprofessional group of colleagues, this position will help advance the field of interprofessional education, practice and research, at UW and beyond.
CHSIE is the coordinating body for interprofessional education at the UW, supporting students, faculty and staff across the health sciences schools to gain skills for better collaboration (nursing, social work, medicine, dentistry, public health and pharmacy). The area of programming we are seeking support for is funded by the six health sciences deans (medicine, nursing, social work, pharmacy and dentistry). The Specialist will be integral to sustaining and developing interprofessional education (IPE) in three key areas – classroom, clinical learning environments, and community engagement/service learning.
The Interprofessional Education Program Operations Specialist provides program administration, programmatic support and coordination for a growing portfolio of interprofessional education programming in the classroom, clinic and in the local community. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a collaborative spirit, organizational agility, leadership and project management skills, commitment to health equity, and the ability to develop effective working relationships with and create synergy among a variety of diverse stakeholders. The successful candidate will embrace the dynamic environment, and approach the work with curiosity, enthusiasm and open-mindedness.
The UW is a leader in this area and the work we do will influence the national agenda in this collaborative approach to health care.
Project Management Responsibilities (70%):
Participate on steering committees and workgroups, alongside faculty, students and staff from across health sciences, focused on developing various areas of IPE programming in the classroom and community.
Help develop project strategies and plans, communicate timelines, and identify work assignments to accomplish goals under CHSIE’s two key work areas (Classroom Curriculum and Community Engagement/Service Learning).
Implement effective communication channels with stakeholders including students, faculty, community partners and CHSIE leadership.
Act as a thought partner and contributor to curriculum and program development.
Assess progress rigorously, take steps to keep the projects on track and integrated, implement process improvement as needed, and keep the CHSIE leadership team informed.
Take a leadership role in program evaluation efforts.
Support grant-writing efforts.
Attend community outreach events alongside students and clinical faculty, including with the Mobile Health Outreach Program.
Administrative and Operational Responsibilities (30%):
Coordinate, plan and facilitate meetings amongst key stakeholders that include students, faculty, clinicians and community partners. This includes helping to coordinate schedules, develop/circulate meeting agendas, note taking during meetings, and distributing meeting minutes.
Assist with preparation of reports and presentations for Health Sciences Board of Deans and school-specific interprofessional education updates.
Assist with development of publications, presentations and marketing efforts.
Assist with developing educational evaluation and assessment surveys and survey protocols using tools like REDCap and Catalyst.
Assist with website updates.
Organize classroom space and educational materials/supplies and provide day-of coordination for educational events.
Requirements include:
  • Master’s degree in relevant field (e.g., social work, nursing, bioethics, education, social sciences, public health, health administration)

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in program management, program coordination, curriculum development or other relevant field.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative spirit

  • Ability to work with diverse groups and organizations.

  • Evidence of organizational and administrative skills, including coordination and supervision of work groups.

  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to work creatively and collaboratively in a fast paced and changing work environment.

  • Think-outside-the-box skills.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills; a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with faculty, administrators, staff, students, and other constituents.

  • Enthusiasm and hopefulness about the role of interprofessional collaboration in healthcare.

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
    Desired:
    • Experience with instructional design and learning systems such as Catalyst and Canvas.
    • Working knowledge of a large research university.
    • Experience with project management, preferably in an academic environment or healthcare institution.
    • Knowledge of current trends in the field of interprofessional education and practice.
    • Experience with quality improvement and organizational change management.
    • Experience working with programs that have worked in an integrated fashion or are interdisciplinary.
