Program Specialist – Highly Capable Program

8.0 hours per day, 12 months per year
We appreciate your interest in employment with Vancouver Public Schools (VPS). All applications are considered

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and work collaboratively in a dynamic work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and on the telephone with parents, teachers, other district staff, and the general public in a professional manner
  • Familiarity with Synergy and the ability to reconcile records
  • Experience with GMail and Washington Enhanced System Point and Click (WESPaC) preferred
  • Minimum of one to three years of progressively responsible experience which demonstrates the ability to excel in a high-demand, time-sensitive environment, with outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to manage situations
  • Proficiency working in a PC platform, with working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Ability to keep accurate records and data concerning program functions and performance
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required
  • Ability to schedule, coordinate, administer, and score student assessments for applicants to the Challenge Program
  • Ability to update and maintain precise records for school and district compliance

Other Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and move moderately sized objects up to 50 pounds
  • Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements
  • Valid driver's license


Essential Functions:
  • Serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary team if requested in order to keep accurate notes and process requested data throughout the process.
  • Record and organize data processes for students under review by the Multi-Disciplinary Selection Committee
  • Communicate with parents who have questions about services
  • Contract with Advanced Placement Summer Institute presenters, coordinate and process registrations.
  • Work in a flexible and cooperative manner
  • Regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve the program requirements.
  • Provide communication to schools as directed by the Highly Capable Services TOSA
  • Prepare, mail, and score all home and school versions of identification rating scales and prepare materials for placement and appeals meetings.
  • Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents, and others with dignity and respect at all times
  • Track identified students to ensure middle and high school students are served in advanced-level courses throughout the district.
  • Coordinate assessment process for Highly Capable Services, coordinate proctor training for teachers, develop assessment schedule for screening at every elementary school, and communicate with schools.
  • Coordinate appeals process
  • Complete all iGrant grant completion, reporting, and compliance responsibilities.

It is understood that the district has the right to transfer and reassign employees to best fit the needs of the district.

Benefits/Compensation:

Salary range: New employees will start at the minimum hourly rate in the salary range. However, employees who have verified prior years of service in a similar occupational status from other Washington School Districts or Education School Districts may receive experience credit toward salary placement. Salary schedules can be accessed here.

Retirement: Employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Eligibility is based on FTE. Detailed information can be found here.

Time Off: Vancouver Public Schools offers paid holidays and paid time off, including but not limited to, sick, vacation, personal, and bereavement leave.
  • Personal Leave: 3 days per school year
  • Twelve (12) month full-time Pro Tech employees are eligible to accrue ten (10) days vacation at one (1) - five (5) years of service. The accrual days are incrementally improved by five (5) days at the completion of five (5), eleven (11), and twenty (20) consecutive years of service respectively.
  • Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).
