We are seeking an Intern to join WSL PURE reporting directly to the VP of Environmental and Social Impact. This role will be responsible for supporting the PURE team strategically and administratively and for the execution of PURE communications across all functions of the business. The focus of the role will include grant writing, partnership evaluation, campaign planning, impact reporting and sourcing stories and producing content across multiple digital platforms including social media. WSL PURE is on a mission to inspire, educate, and empower ocean protection, starting with the global surf community. PURE stands for Protecting, Understanding, and Respecting the Environment. This is a unique 1-year opportunity to gain insight into ocean conservation and sustainability within the sports industry. Successful applicants can expect to work a flexible schedule of 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Social Media
- Support reputation management by monitoring across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
- Produce and manage content across multiple digital platforms, including social media.
- Work with content creators and surfers to elevate and maintain social media assets.
- Collaborate and work with cross-functional partners including brand strategy, marketing, communications, partnerships, and analytics.
- Bring original ideas to the team that drive innovation.
- Use social insights to inform strategy, creative, and business decisions.
- Develop social first strategies and campaigns that tie into the broader business and marketing goals.
Grant and Film Submissions
- Gather proposal information by identifying information sources, coordinating submissions and collections, and identifying and communicating risks associated with proposals.
- Research and identify new opportunities and categories to match WSL PURE priorities
Impact Reporting
- Collaborate with teams to strategically develop and aggregate environmental impact of WSL PURE grantees.
Administration
- Proactively search for ways to improve administrative operations, and facilitate collaboration between PURE and other internal teams.
- Responsible for moderate calendar management, requiring interaction with internal employees, senior management, and external assistants to coordinate a variety of meetings.
- Organize and maintain accurate records, expense reports, invoices, check requests, donations, and files for the finance team.
- Help coordinate operational and financial projects, including scheduling, managing project plans, and follow-up with team members to ensure deadlines and deliverables are met to expectations.
- Additional Marketing, Communication and Event duties as needed.
- Various and diverse executional and administrative duties for the PURE team
Qualifications
- General understanding of ocean conservation, environmental issues, and sustainability trends
- Highly proficient using all Microsoft products including Excel and PowerPoint and G Suite; ability to quickly learn software and tools
- Professional communication skills with ability to articulate thoughts and concepts fluidly; both written and verbally
- Undergraduate or Graduate Student at an accredited University pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies, Business, Marketing, or relatable majors to the business.
- Minimum GPA requirement of 3.75
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Effective leadership experience
