Description

The 74th Assembly District Office Internship Program offers a unique opportunity for high school students, college students, and recent college graduates to experience the work of a state Assembly office. The program exposes students to district office operations and activities of a legislator's work. These experiences include working with constituents, conducting community outreach efforts, assisting community based organizations, analyzing databases, staffing the office, and other activities.


Qualifications

  • An interest in public policy, community organizing, political science, economics, English, communications, public relations or a similar area of study or career path.
  • Fluency in other languages in addition to English, a plus
  • Availability between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday, and occasional weekends. Flexible schedules are available, recommended 10+ hours a week
  • Strong written and oral communication skills


Essential Duties Include

  • Assist with and maintain office procedures, routine correspondence, telephone inquiries and special projects
  • Assist in office communications to constituents through mail, email, and phone.
  • Provide accurate and complete information in response to constituent inquiries and community issues
  • Assist in research and planning of upcoming events and projects
  • Active involvement in monitoring District and State issues, current events and relevant legislation

Benefits

Although unpaid, interns receive important benefits like working directly with elected officials, community leaders and local residents on issues and events related to the 74th Assembly District. Interns may also qualify for internship credit from their university or school, as well as earn a letter of recommendation from the Assemblymember.
